How many have you shot ?

I've shot Big Bulls which have dropped to the shot, and other lesser Buffalo
take multiple hits and still not drop until you punch out the brain.

A 505 Gibbs is a good calibre, like any of the over 50's but it doesn't guarantee
that an animal will drop to the shot, even if you do put it in the right place
like the vital traingle.

I slaughtered quite a few as my 505 Gibbs was used to test the
Woodleigh 600gn PP bullets before they hit the market so we had
to shoot a few small herds of Buffalo to test them.

Rod doesn't need to feed him !!!

I think even people who have shot a fair few Buffalo of either sort would question blanket statements like that. Far too many variables.

Point well taken sir Cool

I'll openly admit I've taken only two bison on kodiak island. My brother and I are finally going to get our feet dirty in Africa next year, we haven't decided where yet. All I know is that we have the money and our quarry consists of one Cape buffalo apiece, at least!
My first bison was appropriately a 45-70, with two 540gr Garrett hammerheads. The damn thing ran us pretty good. The second was with a .458 Lott, 500gr Hornady SP. It gave a good lurch, ran us about 300yds than stopped. I was able to pop him again which than he gave up. Made my brother and I look like a pair of idiots running around trying not to trip on our snow suits.
I know that isn't really much to offer. My father owned a .505 and to my knowledge, only killed a tree with it. I do have a four year old project, a P14 enfield that one day I hope will be a .585 Nyati, if I get off my ass and round it up.
I know "Scotty Don't" is on Rob's crap list with good reason, guess I was cheering him on.

I can verify Scotts has yes been harassing people, posting under multiple handles, quoting his lunatic stories and erroneuos data for the last 7-8 years and sucking the same mods into arguments for all that time Big Grin

And yet he remains on site for all that time.

Yet we somehow lose incredibly knowledgable big game hunters like 500grains to a complete ban.

I guess maybe they actually like having ScottS around..

Karl.

Well this thread has gone to hell. No point in posting further here.

With regard to banning. Not necessary. If Saeed wants me to go all he has to do is ask me to not post anymore, simple as that.

You don't want to know how many stray cats and dogs we've taken in at the ranch over the years.
I know his history, maybe he needs one more chance to get lined out.

I'll pass on bashing him until he does something to me.
