SuperSpeed270 for me.
Somebody gets the honor of being first for the .395 in another AR.COM poll. Well, I have done it, just in the nick of time.

Looks like the early leader is the .416 caliber.
It has 2 votes before any others got more than one.

05 April 2007, 08:58
SuperSpeedI know it is the forum

and there are only a few votes but no 300 or 338.
Hey Boom Stick, maybe you should have stuck this on Medium Bores because all the crowd here might be out Rugered by now
Mike

boom stickwell the givens that hornger-rugady will make would be the 416 (this one comes out in january if rumors hold true) so their votes wont go without reward and next would be the 338
the 30 and 7mm might have a chance at production but not likely imho but hornger might be making too much money to stop...good for them if they do.
the 6.5, 35, 411 and 423 will be strictly wildcats and worthy of shelling out the dough to make and not waiting. the 411 will be an awesome versitile big bore with its pistol bullet capacity...
the 338 version shooting the 270 gr a frames @ 2700 fps would be killer! (pun intended)

boom stickthat would belong in the 9,3 forum

05 April 2007, 13:08
Thebear_78I had to go with the 416 but the 338 would be a close second.

pinotguyHow's this for bizarre - .348? Ever since the .375 Ruger was introduced, I thought it would be a great base for wildcats. If you could neck it down to .348 and then load up some Hawk Spitzers (yes, they make them) over, say VihtaVuori N150, you'd have a pretty powerful cartridge.
05 April 2007, 18:28
phurley5A .358 nut here with a couple STA's that are awesome.

Good shooting.

sdgunslinger30 for me.
I know there is already a boatload of 30 mags , but none of them seem just exactly right to me . The 300 Ruger could be it.
I am really surprised they are going to do a 416 next , seems to me to be an even narrower marketing niche than the 375 bore.
A 9.3 or .35 would essentially duplicate the capabilties of the .375 .
05 April 2007, 18:37
Dr. LouIf I could have chose more than one, I would of went with the 6.5 and 9.3 in addition to the 35. Lou

AtkinsonI have a .416/375 Ruger almost done, wish it was a 423/375 Ruger, so when I stock it I will sell it and build me a .423/375

prof242Since we now have, well soon, .395 rifles, how about a .440? RIP has surmised the shoulder would not be enough for a .458, but a .440 should make it. If not, my vote is the .423.

boom stickwow...the 6.5 is doing better than i thought...
it should push those 160 grainers about 3000 fps ish
05 April 2007, 22:53
jeffeosso338, as it would perform like a 340 weatherby and slide into a standard action...
and, besides, i need a varmit rifle

465H&HI think the most useful would be a 458/375 Ruger. I would like to see someone try it and hope for once RIP is wrong.

boom stickit could work...but barely imho...but i thrive on barely...
i like the idea of turning a 375 ruger case and shooting 45-70 bullets out of a 450 marlin chambered gun.
05 April 2007, 23:22
500grainsIf I necked the 375 Ruger up to .458" and then glued on a rim, could I shoot it in a 45-70?
05 April 2007, 23:26
jeffeossocase has been measured at
.530
-.458 bullet
.072
-.034 for neck thickness
-.015 for taper
.023 TOTAL headspce...
thats 7 sheets of paper, total.
too small for me, thanks.

tdobeshI voted in favor of the 264 Ruger but that's only because the 17 Cal. version wasn't a choice in this poll!

Tom
06 April 2007, 04:12
boom stickmy guess was the 458 was too big and only a shortened version will work but might as well do the wsm version because of the dies and reamers avaliable...
the 411 would be the mose versitile big bore.

prof242The .440 Ruger didn't go over well.

How about .429?

Boom stick could use .44 Mag pistol bullets in this one, also (and call it the .440 Ruger). Look at the number of 300gr monometal bullets made that would provide adequate American deeer use.
Hep Me! Hep Me! Boom Stick is invading my mind!

vapodogIt looks like the 338 and 416 are running neck and neck
The more likely one is the .358 but that caliber seems to not be popular in the US
Too bad as it's where the muscle should be.

surestrikeI think it would make a very nice .358 using heavier 270 or 300 grain bullets.
06 April 2007, 23:49
dgr416The 416 I have wanted a stainless 416 for a long time in a ruger .Plus I am going to probally make a old Ruger model 77 in a416 Ruger.I think that would be an awesome rifle.

boom stickyou 9,3 people get yer feathers ruffled as much as us 45-70 people

07 April 2007, 23:48
boom stickthe 338 seems to be the winner here since the 416 is comming out soon, we might have to wait till the following shot show to see the 338 if they decide to pull the trigger. i am sure they are in development as we speak.
160 to 300 grains in weights of bullets...
should be interestng...
