Has anyone checked as to whether the access to the range has been compromised by the flooding in Houston? On the evening news I saw some people being rescued from their cars which were stalled in window deep water on city streets.

I would hate to drive 500 plus miles one way and not be able to get there because things are under water.

Most of the flooding was north of the CBD of Houston. I could probably drive down there and take a look thursday or friday it that would not be too late.

Is anyone coming to the shoot that is a shotshell reloader?

I have a box of 12 guage components and a little powder that has been sitting in my reloading room for the past 15 years and needs a new home. It's free to anyone who wants it. Just let me know so I don't haul it down there for no reason.

+1! I'll bring a bunch of extra for those who never had to deal with mosquitos that fly pecans around for exercise.

Good news is we have partly clouldy forecast with a high of 85. Not bad for early May on the coastal plains!

Just got in, haven't unloaded the truck yet as it is raining here.

I really enjoyed meeting everyone and putting faces with names. There was some very serious hardware present, and it was good to see a couple of old friends again. The barbeque feed was a winner, too. I told Rusty that it is hard to match a day like today, let alone improve on it. Thanks for having us.

I have been back in Corpus about an hour. That was an incredible shoot!! What a grand bunch! For the naysayers out there about the velocities of RBCD ammo...you know who you are...Rusty's chronograph and several witnesses say otherwise. I can't wait til next year. Fantastic to finally put some faces with the names. Thank you Bayou Rifles for allowing us to use your facilities. Thanks to all the guys who put this event together and to the new friends I made.
I was able to shoot a couple true big bores that really make my 375H&H seem like a popgunSmiler! The 458 Lott was interesting and tolerable. The 550 magnum, well as they say in south Texas CHIIIIIIIINGOOOOOOOOOW !!! Wouldn't want to shoot that more than a couple times a day! And I am the idiot that wants a 600OK, go figure.

Almost forgot. While I did not shoot any double rifles there were many that were gorgeous, maybe one day I'll get one of my own!

Special "Thanks to Jeffe our co-host. Keith (HogKiller) for tote'n the target stands and cookers half way across South East Texas.
Thanks as well to BobC, MJines, and JD for all their help.

Before I forget, Big Thanks to Macifej (Jay) for donating Brass, Bullets and dies as door prizes. His "2" Bore case was the "Official Money holder for the match!

We'll try to have another "Hoot and Shoot" later in the year.

This can certainly be a twice a year event! I also want to add my thanks to everyone who helped put it on, it was great! Andy, all you have to say is that you would like to shoot a double rifle and you will be deluged with offers. This is a damn generous bunch of folks who share exceedingly well! Next time, say something and we will get you hooked up!!

Lee,

It wasn't that I didn't get to. I was just commenting on the variety of gorgeous doubles that were on display. There was plenty of opportunity. I have never picked up a double that felt like it would be "comfortable" to shoot. Ofcourse after shooting the 550 Magnum how bad could it be Big Grin. They have always felt a bit awkward to me. Except perhaps that .22 Hornet, but that is another story. Jim Bullard offered his 9.3x74R, but I became distracted by something else, imagine that. But it seems Jim is spending more and more time down here in Corpus, so we may yet get together and burn some powder.

As I recall there was an attempt to start a big bore shooters association in Corpus back in the 1990s, but nothing ever developed. Maybe I should take a stab at getting something going. To the best of my knowledge there are many big bore owners in Corpus. Perhaps no one ever gave them the right push. I see in an above post Rusty has suggested we do this again later this year. I am all for that. If it materializes I will put the word out to the big bore owners in Corpus to go and have as much fun as I did. Maybe then we will have a more enthusiastic response.

Here are some shots of the fun.

Happy crowd:

The candy store:

Ready on the firing line!

Fire!

Fire!

L to R: MJines, Jeffe and ELS

Rusty in full recoil:

In the first "Fire!" photo you can see Sharpsguy in the back, cleaning our collective clocks with his paper-patched BP Sharps. Three out of four shots offhand into one hole so small you could barely tell two bullets went throught it!

In the picture of jimacat (red shirt) you can see Berit Aagaard last in line, shooting her full-house 458 Lott 375 H&H. Better view of her keeping time in Rusty's pic.

Hey Aglifter,

Wanna guess which single action I would bring to a big bore handgun shoot?? jumping

Now if I could shoot my 375 as well as my Freedom Arms I might actually be dangerous!

The light loads in that 500 S&W were ridiculous!!!! That was the closest I've ever come to eating a handgun!

Maybe I'll bring some 400gr loads for .454Casull to the next shoot.
