I always looked forward to getting the newest Safari Press catalog. I know I will never make it to Africa to hunt, but I could live my dreams through other's writings. Hadn't received one in a long time, so went to their site...When selecting all books from their menu, 11 books showed up. When clicking on books about Africa, 3 showed up, all record books. I think they still have Wanderings of an Elephant Hunter, but that was it on African hunting...Any one know what happed to them?

They are doing this thing called World Wide Hunting Books. https://www.worldwidehuntingbooks.com/

Not sure of their overall plan with newer books.

I just saw that safari press was sold in 2022

They have to do what they can to stay alive. I am as guilty as most for buying on Amazon, but they have really killed the other retail businesses.

Ludo Wurfbain sold Safari Press (including the inventory) to Rowman Littlefield last summer. If you search Rowman Littlefield's site, you can find a bunch of Safari Press books. I'm not sure of their plans for the future and Mr. Wurfbain didn't know when I talked to him in January. I also asked Craig Boddington about future publishing plans with Rowman Littlefield, and he was waiting to see what happened.

So it's not really clear if they will be publishing any new books, or simply selling the existing inventory and/or reprinting books from the current Safari Press catalog.

As I said, I am as guilty as most on using Amazon. Historically, competition is good for business, where monopoly is not. I am a capitalist,+ applaud good business structure, but I hate to see other businesses fail + the end consumer relegated to only one provider. One does not need a crystal ball.

This is why I avoid Amazon, kills all the small shops.

Ludo Wurfbain did something truly special with Safari press. It saddens me to hear that this has passed on like so many things in our world.

I’m only 47, but I feel like I have seen enough of the things I enjoy perish during my time.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Hello Eddie. I must disagree with your statement to a large extent. 60% or so of all products sold on Amazon ARE from small shops that simply use the Amazon platform for marketing, collection, and delivery in today's online world.

My son and daughter in law have become one of the top 1% Amazon sellers in the world over the past 10 years. They started part time and eventually became successful enough to do it full time, working out of their home, contracting with 2 large warehouses, one on each coast of the USA. They are the very definition of a Small Shop, still working out of their home, or anywhere they have an internet connection.

We are heading to Zim for a buffalo hunt in a few weeks. For me, I want to disconnect from the world when I go on safari, but my son cannot. We are dragging a Starlink Roam kit so that he can check in on his business daily from camp.

This may be a new definition of Small Shop but that's what it is nonetheless. It's simply an adaptation to the current market forces. In the past year or so, he and his wife, have moved away from retailing from wholesale purchases, and focused on producing their own trademarked products. In the example of the safari press books now being sold on Amazon, I suspect this is a similar arrangement.

Good point, Todd. I never really gave it much thought, but I buy beau coup of books from different sellers + tubes of mustard from Germany, etc. Hey, they take a slice of profit for making the product available to everyone, I can live with that. As I said, I am a capitalist + I believe that when everyone does better, everyone does better.

I do not think Amazon was selling the new, hunting and shooting books we were enjoying from Safari Press. Older Editions, sure Amazon was an outfit to find older editions of certain authors, but Safari Press was pretty much the only game in town for new content and was the publisher.

I thought something was amiss when I did not see Safari Press at SCI.

Did Ludo Wurfbain pass as well as sell?

As far as I know, he's fine. What he told me at the 2022 DSC show (when Safari Press was for sale, but not yet sold) was that he had too many businesses - Sports Afield, the Sports Afield trophy property business, Rowland Ward, and the used books - Worldwide Hunting Books and something had to give.
