Some pics I thought everyone would like to see of Indian Gaur (Bison)in my friends backyard in Kodicanal, India, taken last week! They come by to eat the pears from the trees! They have a herd of 15 come by from time to time, but these two bulls come around fairly often! These are not tame animals by any mean. Infact Gaur are generally very timid creatures but these seem to have become very used to humans, which is probably not a good thing! He says that they are not too scared of the dogs as can be seen from the pix! FYI these are the largest wild ox in the world!

Awesome! They are a rare beast these days and from what I understand can be very quick with horn and hooves towards their enemies so it is good these like dogs! This one hung out in my backyard one day for photos then we took him back into the studio! Best Regards Mike O

Hmm, I'll be in India soon for work. I wonder how tough it is to bring a rifle in and hunt these. - dan "Intellectual truth is eternally one: moral or sentimental truth is a geographic and chronological accident that varies with the individual" R.F. Burton

unfortunately, India closed its hunting in the early 70s so the mighty Gaur or other game cannot be hunted.

Nice bulls, too bad the Fish and Wildlife Service killed off hunting for Gaur in Texas. We need more Gaur breeding stock in North America ours are running into a dead end gene-pool wise.
