Green energy a myth? Login/Join

Pressurizing for flow is what hills are for. In the absence of a hill, a tower will suffice. Storing water at elevation is better than using a bank of batteries. A DC pump, powered by solar, will pump whenever the sun shines enough to run the pump at all. The tank is filled (stored energy)eventually. Once the tank is full, the overflow goes to irrigation. The DG pumps do not pump a great deal of volume, but a few gallons a minute adds up over 8 hours (we get a hell of a lot more sunlight than that in the summer). An alternative, in some areas, would be to use a windmill to produce DC power to run the pump. Gravity is pretty consistent when it comes to producing pressure. A surge tank to smooth things out isn't a bad addition. I have done this in the past (minus the solar), and it works fine. Not using batteries means you are not contributing to the horrific pollution their manufacture creates; so your system is much more "green". When I set up the prototype system, the construction was even quite environmentally friendly, since I did everything by hand. This time, I will make liberal use of diesel powered machinery, so not quite so green! Regards, Bill.

I'm also considering adding one of these.

I have two standard, electric deep wells/pumps on my property. A Bison made pump on one would be a bonus and a lot less complicated than solar.

Light bulbs did in fact replace candles.....

Because they worked! They did not require any government subsidies to be effective.....

Are you sure about that Jim?

How did America become electrified? Especially rural America? Through the help of the Federal Government.

If a subsidy (taxpayer money) benefits the American people I approve. Just think if farmers were never provided with power grid. None of you would be eating.

DOGE says the feds have spent 50 million $ on luxury hotels and meals for illegals. WTF? Why aren't you libs complaining about that?

Another fact tidbit:

"President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956, which established the United States Interstate Highway System. He is often called the "Father of the Interstate System".

Explanation
Eisenhower believed that the country needed safer and faster highways to support national defense and the growing number of cars on the road.

He was inspired by his experiences in the 1919 Transcontinental Convoy and his observations of German autobahns during World War II.
The act authorized $25 billion for construction between 1957 and 1969.

Eisenhower also approved the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1958, which increased authorizations for Interstate construction."

There was probably some "waste" in there somewhere. Roll Eyes

Renewable on a small scale is getting too the stage where the initial larger outlay is competitive against commercial ongoing power prices.
It doesn't worry me, Ill take a change in system if its cheaper and reliable.

Trump is planning to award one of his companies the contract. Probably not a fixed-price contract, either.

A rancher I met in Wyoming paid about $100K for a power line from the road five miles to his hay field. It was worth it to him not to haul diesel for a well pump. That field isn't going to be irrigated from solar panels, too big. Solar works for stock tanks, vs a Jacobs windmill.
