It is long tradition not to use local recruits for an operation in their hometowns...

Long overdue.
Personally, I love Mexico and every good person and thing in it. I wish them and it well, I love being there and I appreciate the good Mexico has brought to the USA.

Like Haiti, Mexico is a threat to our national security. As I've said before, were I in charge of have a Marine division on a Hatian beach months ago. As for Mexico, I'd be happy to fly down, sit with the Mexican president and our staff and hash out in an afternoon how we are going to solve Mexico's problems starting the beginning of next week.

I'd go to them. Id emphasize "we" and the beginning of next week.

I don't believe for a minute Mexico or Haiti is any kind of mystery and there isn't a clear, obvious and legal solution.

Before we go telling others how to fix their problems, maybe we should figure out how to fix some of our own.

Leave Mexico to the Mexicans.

Hasn't worked so far, and id emphasize "we".

Yes, you and I are the demand for their supply. But I see a problem with their "supply" stacking up against our border by the ton. If supply was reduced, demand would reduce.

Lawless neighbors usually bleed across fences and property lines. A meth lab or biker gang next door to the home you raise you children in usually negatively influenced your domestic bliss.

Mexico and Haiti, ( as well as a few others,) are negatively influencing our domestic bliss and they've had adequate time to learn to stop soiling their diapers.

In Haiti's case, I'd add them to the list of territories and be done. We've sent the Marines down there too many times, this last time should be permanent. Give Guantanamo Bay back to Cuba, send them a moon and move it all to Haiti. We're currently doing the same between Okinawa and Guam.

We inserted ourselves heavily and forcefully in Colombia and it seems to have worked. Mexico should be next.

I think the plan is to buy Greenland and have Denmark pay for it Big Grin I think America should evacuate the lower 48 and invade Canada so Mexico can take over the former lower 48. The new country formerly known as Canada will be named “A MAGA CA”. Alaska will no longer be separated and the country will be one contiguous territory. We will do a citizen swap. All lefties will be south of the border. No person who is communist or a big welfare government type can live in AMAGACA. Trudeau will lead the newly formed country of leftists and anyone who walked across the former US border. Once Mexico is empty AMAGACA will invade Mexico and build a big wall. Elon will build a tunnel connecting AMAGACA to the newly conquered Mexico.

sigh, some dims (sp) never learn -- the election was lost on the economy and the border -- but you keep doing you -- in super majority white Idaho --- with an entire state population of approx 1/2 of 1 year's "population" of border jumpers ...

Edward Abbey wrote that we should meet them at the border, give each a rifle and a case of ammunition, and let Mexicans solve their customary problems in their customary manner.

No, "we".
We as in the two of us or the group of us. And I did mean go there as in id be happy to go meet with them. Mexico is a huge problem and I'd advise taking the initiative. A strong solution could be, can be hammered out over an afternoon of Pacifico's and shrimp tacos.

Decades ago I met this really neat school principal in Emmonak AK. Black man from Alabama, father of five in a rural small town.
A story he told went that none of his five children in his rural Alabama small town could go anywhere around town and misbehave because, (his words,) a "big black mamma," would come off their porch, take that child by the ear and walk them all the way across town back home. Having arrived at the child's address, the intervening big black mamma would explain to the delinquent childs big black mamma the circumstances relating to her escorting the delinquent child home and would not let go of the child's ear until the child's big black mamma took a hold of the other ear.

(Transfer of custody,)

As if the walk of shame/ discipline wasn't enough, once the child's big black mamma took ahold of the other ear, the real correction and discipline began.

This my friend in a nutshell is the problem: no one anymore fears the consequences of being caught in their bad behavior, there are no more "Big Black Mommas" on the world porch.

"Kill Em All and Let God Sort Em Out!" actually can/ could be legitimate foreign policy occasionally maybe very occasionally or rarely. We've been trying the opposite for decades and it doesn't seem to be working.
I think most Big Black Mommas would agree.

Scott, the marine division is the easy bit, building a functioning self sustaining society afterward is the difficult bit.

You did a fantastic job in Germany and Japan 80 years ago, and Korea worked out ok. Iraq not so well.

It never ceases to amaze me how one half of an island can be prosperous and the other half of the same island a total shit hole.

I would invade and conquer for strictly security/ strategic reasons.

A Failed State 700 miles from our border is a bummer. Today Haiti is open and available to any enemy of ours that either bullys or pays appropriately.

Why not close Guantanamo and move it there? The level of security we provide for Guantanamo is more like one of our "SuperMax" prisons to keep our Marines within safe. Once pacified I doubt Haiti would need a barbed wire fence.

Stability, security and no more calamities on Haiti. No more famines or civil ears, no more gangs and rioting hordes, no more juntas.

We can't go invading countries right and left. I'm reminded of a cooperative effort between the US and Colombia a while back where we sent in special forces to work in cooperation with the Colombian forces and when they went in, they didn't go to arrest the drug dealers. Did a lot to clean up Colombia. I'd be in favor of something like that. Not an invasion. The former would be a win-win for both countries. Cooperative effort, establish an alliance, good training exercise for troops, clean house with corrupt foreign officials, dead drug dealers. All positive. But need to sell Mexico on the idea and Mexico has always been reluctant to let US troops into Mexico for obvious reasons. We've fought a couple of wars between ourselves and the last time US troops went to Mexico, it was an invasion, so you kind of get their point.

I was born and raised within a mile of the Rio Grande. We are going to have to win the trust of Mexican government if we are going to be able to jointly take on the cartels, but that would be a great thing for the people of both countries.
