Now, McConnell is historically wrong. The senate tried, convicted, and barred from office a Cabinet Secretary who left office and was impeached.


McConnell’s rationale for not voting to convict on impeachment also does not hold up with the recent S. Ct., decision that requires Congress to invoke the Insurrection Clause. Congress can bar a private citizen through certain constitutional tools from office.

They will cook up something new. Remember Citizens United and how Scalia suddenly became God and made a Corporation into a Person and Money into speech. With one stroke he legitimised all bribery and all unlimited oligarchic control.
