We'll be visiting our daughter there and the missus is lining up artsy-fartsy stuff. Surely somebody here has some suggestions to save my sanity.

There are periodic gun shows at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, next one is July 12-13.

When do you plan to go? Fishing trips leave from San Pedro and Dana Point, not too far from Irvine.

The Cleveland National Forest has some good dirt roads if you can escape from town (occasional mule deer and puma sightings).

Thanks Tom. I'm here now, staying with our daughter and her husband. All is well as the shopping center across the street from their apartment is a Korean market -- heaven on earth for me.

Not much hunting there but perhaps fishing. There are some beautiful beaches, restaurants ect around Laguna Beach. Make sure to visit the opening this weekend of the Sawdust festival, the Fine Arts festival and especially the Pageant of the Masters while you are there. Yes artsy fartsy but worth a visit.

If you've got the time, take a run over and visit the pier at Santa Monica and then down to Venice. Very entertaining.

Irvine has its charms, an easy place to get used to...
