joe25/06Really great looking place. I think you have done what most of us dream about-found your own little piece of paradise. East Texas folks can be a bit strange though, so you might want to be careful for a while. I was surprised when I moved from west Texas to east at the difference in the people. Congratulations.

tendramsLooks like a GREAT place. The solar panel sounds like a great plan. I would also maybe get an inexpensive backup generator and I second 450's idea for the wood burning stove. I would probably also put a solid front door in with a dead bolt and have some nice heavy steel shutters made for those windows....but then I am paranoid like that.

I installed some cabinets and a Natures Head composting toilet. Used a bamboo partition for the toilet to save me some labor. I still need to get the ceiling in over the loft. I'll probably post more pics in 6 weeks. Hopefully it will be done. It's warming up so I have to get it done before it gets too hot.

GeedubyaLooks great! Anticipation is a two edged sword.
How come you're not gonna start around the 1st of October. IIRC, Saturday October 1 is the start of bow season?
Being as dry as it has been are you having much trouble with skeeters?
Do you have any muscadines on your place?

Never tried bow hunting. I have a bad shoulder that occasionally gets sublexed. It's not real stable so I don't think it's in the cards.
I haven't really been down there much this summer because of the heat. I'm sure the skeeters are bad enough. My pond still has some water in it
I had no idea what a muscadine was until I just Googled it. I'll have to look next time

Scott, crossbows are legal you know, that will get around your shoulder problems.
Even the rocks don't last forever.

You need to invite Jeffeosso to meet you there with a couple bottles of his home vinted muscadine mead. After a couple bottles you won't even notice the skeeters or your bad shoulder.

Scott, crossbows are legal you know, that will get around your shoulder problems.
It's funny that you mention that. I had no idea they became legal for archery season until a week ago when I was reading the hunting regulations. I might have to give it a try next year.

Don't know that I could tell the difference. Dad always called them muscadines. Grew in vines all over our place. Would grab and eat them when roaming the woods.
I do have no problem telling them from poison sumac!

ledvmWe have multiple varieties of wild grapes at my home place. We always called them Mustangs...apparently there may be a difference between Muscadines & Mustangs...just curious.

Agreed. Apparently Muscadines are Vitis rotundifolia and Mustangs are Vitis mustangensis.
