I may go and have a look and see if he is still around on Thursday morning. Since 2004 I've felt I would never see a deer bigger than the one I saw that year(296"), this buck just might be bigger so I'm making the trip. Drum

There is a cemetary above Durango where I live. There are Monster bucks that just hang out there. It is kinda a safe zone for them as no hunting is allowed, obviously, in there, but every now and again, some idiot goes in there and poaches a deer..... they are very tame and I think it is a shame that some folks have to do that. It is cool to see some truly big bucks coem walking through town and hang out.

From this picture I don’t think it’s “Photo Shopped”. I don’t see the pixel disturbance in this picture from a modification. What I see is a freak of nature and if he doesn’t break off those drop tines soon they may cost him his live during the rut. Those drops are already chewing up his right shoulder and he hasn’t started fighting yet.

I don’t know if he belongs in the gene pool any more then a forked horned 8 year old buck. What say you?

OK, the second angle convinces me. The odd formation down the right side of his head looked like something else to me in the first picture. It looked like part of a neck and shoulder of another mount that had been imposed on the profile of the deer. The second angle shows this was not the case. Pretty darn odd deer there. If that deer is real.... That is the kind of deer a fella should shoot even if it is in the 4th of July Parade, down Main Street, and the Game Warden is riding him... DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Man, that deer's got to be pushing 300". He's easily got about 150+" of trash on him. That's pretty nuts! The really neat thing about this buck is that he lives on public ground. It may be in the city limits but it is still public ground. He wasn't raised behind a fence or fed straight out of a corn feeder. Nobody ever pumped him full of supplements or selectively bred his daddy to his momma. He is as nature intended he be. Spectacular and a wonderful testament to the power of nature.

Since when is the parking lot of JE Dunn "public ground"? How do you know what the locals have or have not fed or done with this deer? Anybody here know what unit that parking lot is in so I can apply?
|
One of Us |
Did you take the time to actually read the story? The deer moved from inside the town to the outlying areas. He didn't live full time in that parking lot, that was where he was first seen. This deer is very well known in Colorado and since one of the biggest offices of the Division of Wildlife is also in that town, you can bet the game wardens kept an eye on him. Feeding wildlife in Colorado is against the law and the game wardens enforce that law. The locals would not have got away with feeding him for long. Too visible. Nobody said he was in a hunting area. But he sure as hell wasn't manipulated by man like a lot of big deer are these days. Do you go out of your way to be obtuse? Or is it really in your nature to be naturally argumentative about everything? It is a very childish attitude.

I do. But, every once in a while I try to give you the benefit of the doubt and see if you have anything relevant to say. But in this case it proves you still don't, which is your normal situation. So, which is it? Are you obtuse or simply argumentative? Oh, well. Welcome back to the ignore list.

I bow hunted elk with Noah in the Breaks last year......hell of a nice guy. I followed him out on an evening hunt that turned into the Bataan Death March for me.....I miscalculated how much better shape a wilderness forest fighter is in than I am.

My friend emailed me these pics last year. He said they were in Colorado Springs as that is where he lives. I do believe that the growth on his neck or from his head is some sort of a tumor. It would make sense if it were since growing double sets of antlers isn't a common occurance. I don't know if I would want to eat him but he sure would be mounted up on my wall as fast as I could get it back from the taxidermist.
|

Ummm that growth is not on his body, its a club drop tine that eventually got busted off.

"Public Ground" I love how its the tough game warden presence in that town that has kept him safe. Like it has nothing to do with the fact that there would be five hundred witnesses to the crime. Kind of like nobody poaching tigers at the zoo. Must be all the bad ass game wardens keeping them safe.
