Nice little piggy!!! I have an idea that may work to get rid of Jools. Why doesn't everyone put him on ignore and if none of his posts are being read maybe he will exit stage left, never to be seen or heard from again! I just did and it shortened this thread considerably, LOL!

Here are a few that with all that has happened over the last year that I especially proud of.

The bobcat and coyote were killed on two of the places where I work, the bobcat was killed about 200 yards from our chicken and sheep pens.

This picture is of Lora, my wife and her oldest daughter Carolyn and Carolyn's first deer. She killed it on Christmas Day 2011, 16 days after the accident that almost cost me my left arm, and 4 days after a 9 hour surgery to repair that arm, and I was able to be there and help her get that deer. Just a guess but I would say those two are plenty damn happy with that animal.

This was the first duck I killed after all my surgeries on the arm that I injured, but with a little will, some Texas Redneck engineering and a God that was not ready to give up on me, I am damn proud of that duck.

And Whit....that just looks like too damn much fun with a handgun.

Here ya go CHC - a pic of my small boy and I with a fox we bagged in Australia late January. We dont have foxes in New Zealand so this was a special , long weekend away for Matthew as he started high school the day after we got back home.

If you are still around Jools - I aint the only one you annoy - take note and change your approach to being positive and non-aggressive. You might be surprised how easy it really is .....

Muzza,

if "American Big Game Hunting" could be a state of mind, I'd say that looks as "American as Apple Pie" to me! I read your original post and enjoyed it. Some of the guys here may not have seen it, What's the chances of you providing a link to that post?

the place I hunt now we are covered up in fox. I can pretty much shoot them till my heart is content.

Not too many coyotes though. They seem to be few and far between.

And coons, last time my son and I went for a ride on the atv spotlighting we got 10 in about 3 hours.

When I run out of shells I have to resort to drastic measures.! Lucky me, almost never run out of limes!

and of course we always have appropriate tunes.........

Isn't that part of what hunting is supposed to be about?

Getting out in the country and enjoying the experience.

I was fine with everything until pictures of liquor popped up in those two photos! Guns and alcohol don't mix and having pictures up like that don't do us one bit of good. A good drink or two AFTER a hunt is fine, but not out in the field. Sorry, but IMHO there is no way that any hunter should be posting pictures like that anywhere on the net---just sayin!!!

A fellow that posts here on occasion has a saying that I’ve kind taken to heart. Opinions Vary!

Sir, a wise man once said that a soft answer turns away wrath. I think he also said something to the effect that a brother offended, it is harder to regain his confidence than to take a strong city.
So with that in mind perhaps you will accept the following. If not, and you choose to be offended, well that’s your right.

I won’t address the issue of whether guns and alcohol mix. I will say a fellow once shared with me that a young man needs to learn to keep his passions within due bounds. That applies to wine, women and song.

IIRC, there were no guns of any type displayed in the photos. You have no clue when, where or under what circumstances those pictures were taken. In any another venue I challenge you to correlate those photos with hunting. Those animals could have been road kill. And as to whether any hunter should post pix of a bottle of adult beverage with of any object or animal, I think you are painting with a very broad brush.

Would you take exception to any or all of these?

would you not post something like this because anything that might offend anti-smoking zealots is verboten.

Would you refrain from posting this as it might offend a liberal.

would you ban a photo like this because it might offend PETA

If I posted this with the caption, Sometimes I get a wild hare"
or

illustrate the size of a group
or

something just strikes me as neat and I post it here

should these be censored, having no place on a hunting site?

Once again, I respect your right to say so, I just don’t happen to agree with your broad brush strokes as to what is acceptable and what is not. Censorship is something that I abhor, and I'm a conservative.

I’ll give you an example of how anal I am about gun safety. We stand hunt or still hunt for the most part. If I am shooting a bolt action repeater, a shell does not go in the chamber until I am seated and ready to hunt. On a single shot, a shell is not even in the gun. Before I get out of a stand the rifle is unloaded. When we ride on a fourwheeler such as the instance of coon hunting no shell is in the shotguns chamber until we are stopped, the shooter is standing on his own two feet and I am behind him. Long guns are unloaded before we go back to camp. The only exception is sidearms. My son that I hunt with is a tee- totaler, 30 years old and I don’t think he has ever had a cigarette or a drink of an alcoholic beverage. He has been hunting with me since he was six. We love to hunt together. To this day I still preach safety to him. Now I'm doing the same with my sixteen year old grand son.

Now, in the inimitable words of Foghorn leghorn.

That's a joke son!

It is said a joke is not funny if you have to explain it. If you read many of my posts you will note that I am rarely critical of anyone, about any matter. I prefer to be positive in my dealings with folk.
I also quite frequently use humor as a vehicle to tell a story or to get a point across. Much of it being of a self deprecating nature. A picture can be worth a thousand words.
So at the risk of becoming banal. Let me tell you a bit about my photographs and the pictures in question.

I have been shooting pix of stuff since the mid 60’s when I got my first 35mm reflex camera. Used a Canon A-1 for over 20 years. Made the transition to digital in 2003 or 2004 IIRC. I may leave my rangefinder and other things out of my hunting pack but a camera or two are always to be found therein.
I am constantly mindful of situations where I can capture an image for later use. I’ve probably well over 20,000 photos on the hard drive of the computer I'm typing and who knows how many on a 500 meg backup drive. Stuff from Mexico, Jamaica, three different motorcycle trips of a weeks duration of the New England States, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Alaska etc.
Much of it does not involve hunting, so they are typically not posted here. Also have years of game camera images, sometime a couple thousand a month.

Anyway, no alcohol was involved in hunting, shooting or photoging of the animals in the two pictures. The single coon was ripping into grain sacks at night in a trailer in the barn where we store the corn. I probably should have tossed him into the bushes, but sometimes I take coons and foxes to the taxidermist I use. He can sell the hides or do mounts. I shot him as he was a pest. It was the next day when we were getting ready to leave that I saw the position the coon was lying in. He had one front leg covering his eyes. It struck me as funny. I had a half empty Jim Beam Bottle that the label was in pretty good shape. I posed it next to him and threw out a piece of lime. I figured it would be good for a laugh. I really don’t drink shots with raccoons. And even though I use brite white tooth paste and have a telegenic smile, I’ve not really been able to grin bears or coons out of tree like D. Crockett or D. Boone, even though I intimate that I can. Think of the phrase, "That's a joke, son. The second photo was a copycat of the first. We’d killed 10 or so the night before. I figured I pose the bottle next to the coons, once again, as a vehicle for a humorous post.

And that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Best

I really didn't need a long dissertation on how you do things so safely with all the other baloney tossed in, but it was good reading and I'm happy to hear that! The caption above the two photos that had the alcohol bottle in them was this: "And coons, last time my son and I went for a ride on the atv spotlighting we got 10 in about 3 hours."

How was anyone supposed to know what you have just stated when reading that caption? IMHO it was in poor taste to post those pictures whether you were drinking or not because anyone that doesn't know you personally would probably think as I did, especially with no explanation! Thanks for the explanation as I can sleep better tonight, LOL! Peace Bro!

Good stuff Scott.

I can't tell you how many times when I was a stripling I would take a knife and pare bark off a birch tree like the one in your photo. I couldn't fathom how Hiawatha could fashion a waterproof canoe from the bark of one of these. But it was great for writing on.

Some more photos "shot while hunting" well all except one.

I am getting more and more of the mind set that those among us that only use the score of the antlers/skulls/horns as the measuiring stick of the hunt, are not the real hunters among us.

They have cheapened the whole proccess all in the name of notoriety. I really wonder just exactly how many folks would be so adamant about the value of the various scoring clubs. if only the animal was recognised and the shooter kept anonymous.

The true measure of a hunt should be judged by the entire proccess, not just the tale of the tape. That is all just my opinion.
