These pictures are from a guy out in Mason , TX . The pictures were taken from his kitchen onto his deck this year when it snowed in January. email them to me, I'll post em' I'm dying to see them... The chief of police in Camden NY has seen one north of Oneida lake in upstate NY and has several reliable witnesses. They think it's an ex pet but the dog and cat parts left behind show some wild left in the animal... ww111@ Collins

If it is the photo with the cat looking into the house? On the deck, that one has been making the net rounds for close to 5 years. Up here in Wy. everyone says it was in Lander Wy. Still a cool photo no matter where it is!

There are cougar in Texas for sure. My family has seen one on the family ranch West of Waco and the local game wardens have said they range from South of Waco to the Red River. "Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult."

My son and I found a large cat track while hunting in Cass County in 2003. It was wider than a 300win mag is long. I thought it might be a big bobcat track but have never seen one that big. TP&W biologist told me that mountain lions are all over Texas and their range is about 150sq miles. It is the only sign that I have found of a ml. I have been hunting this place for almost 30 years. “I am an American; free born and free bred, where I acknowledge no man as my superior, except for his own worth, or as my inferior, except for his own demerit.” Theodore Roosevelt (1858 – 1919)

Yep..........those pics have made the rounds. That lion must be tired by now after traveling to all those states! I don't recall for sure, but I think they traced the origin to somewhere in Wyoming. I am sure someone else with a better memory will chime in. At least this one has not shown up as often or in as many places as "JJ Hacks"........... Bob PS-I did the "Snopes" thing after another cup of coffee. The photos were actually taken by Dr. Dave Rogers at his home in Lander, Wyoming, circa 2001-2002. It was not watching his kids. The mountain lions in Texas part is true, but these pictures have been floating around for a while and have had a different location every time. In 1990, I saw my first mountain lion just south of Cotulla, TX. In 2001, I saw one on a friend's mother in law's place just north of Mt Enterprise, TX, and last year, our neighbor had 3 bucks that he found dead autopsied. The biologist determined that all three had been killed by a "large cat". He set up a game casmera on the carcassed but didn't get any cat pictures.

There won't be any doubt where he's from if he shows up around here. I don't know why anyone would take that many pictures of a cat doing that and not have at least one with shattered glass and a blood trail. Humans never would have come down out of the trees if we had allowed lions to loll around at the entrances to our caves. It's not just cats either. One day I'm fishing at a local lake. We pull up into a cove and see two big gators (it's mating season or fighting season which ever you prefer). We fish past the gators and turn around to come back out. One stays and the other, the larger one, swims out in front of me. I look up ahead and two women, two little girls and a dog have come down to the waters edge and the little girls get in an inflatable pay boat and are splashing around. I holler at the women that there is a big alligator swimming toward them, which he is doing since he heard the splashing and is even more interested in doing now that the dog has started barking at me for hollering. They say OOOO AHHH and come wading out to get a closer look. I'm thinking, "shit this is a 12' lizard with a brain the size of a golf ball that only knows how to do two things and your wading out to pet it". Now I really yell at them to get the kids out of the water and throw the dog to the gator so it will quit baking. They get the message and start splashing more. The gator speeds up so I ding him with my Srtike King. He doesn't care so I hit him again and jerk it into his head. At that he makes a splash that only a 12' gator can make and NOW the ladies get the picture. Now a guy is running down the bank screaming at the women to get the kids out of the water and yelling some other stuff about their intelligence that I won't go into here ( I guess he was the husband of one of them). Well thank goodness I didn't lose my Strike King and I fished on by and found another cove with no dummies or dogs. We have them here around El Paso TX and southern NM.. on a ranch just east of El Paso I saw where one had killed about 30 sheep up in a mountain cirque pasture...pretty place but the bone pile was disturbing...the rancher told me he had to move his sheep ou of Silver King Canyon because of the lousy cat and that I could come back anytime and hunt lions...also had them trail me when out hiking in southern NM up by Bishops Cap rock formation...always have at least my Mtn Gun with me...never leave home without it or my 45 Les Baer...figure 230gr JHPs would disuade puss-puss....

The legs are too short and the feet are too small. Those feet should be the width of the boards under them. It is so easy to "make" pictures thes days. Additionally so many folks are so gullable, and without researching will believe anything. I used to live in Alvarado,Texas. We saw several tracks around the stock tanks and measured them. They were over 4 inches across. No doubt from a big kitty. Never lost any cattle, but all the other animals cleared out. For several months we saw no bunnies,no coons, no feral hogs, no opossums, no skunks, and heard no coyotes at night. There are many more Mountain Lions in Texas than any one knows including TP&W. Some one mentioned lions around Cotulla, at one time a researcher that used to be with TP&W down on the Chaparral WMA and then worked for the Welder Wildlife group, had something like 20 tagged lions in the triangle that ran from Cotulla, to Pleasanton, then down to Freer and back up to Cotulla. I think that if TP&W ever gets a real handle on how many lions are in the state, they will declare them a Game Animal and establish a season and either a tag or special license. That may be a reach, since 97% + or - a % or so, one way or the other is Private Property, but if TP&W can figure a way to make some revenue on them, they will. JMO. My dad has 31 hobby goats (Kerrville). He produced 0 kids this year. The kids were just gone. Then "whatever" started on the nannies. Govt. Trapper said it was coyotes or hogs. He set traps for both, caught neither. Then the trapper said it was a lion. Then reports of a lion attack on a rancher came in from around Ingram. Dad got a Sheep Dog and lost no more goats. 20 years ago I probably wouldn't have bothered a cat, but now I'm going to shoot one if I get the chance. I really don't think they recognize our place at the top of the food chain. TP&W is already wanting anyone sighting or killing a lion to report it to them. You never know what those folks have up their sleeves, but your right about one thing, it's going to mean more money out of my pocket. I've got some real good friends who work in the trenches for TP&W but I think the REM are just after the money and the control. There have been several lions killed in the vicinity of the ranch I do my javelina hunts on, the closest about 3 miles away across the pastures. There have also been some free range Aoudad killed on the ranch. I always tell my clients, that if we see an Aoudad, they can have first shot, just do not miss. If we see a lion, they are to just sit still, it is mine. Even the rocks don't last forever.

I have a lot of guys tell me that they've seen a cat on our place. I always go look for tracks and find none. I brought a game biologist out once (had to get a Wildlife exemption) and he told me that it was Mountain lion country and that we probably had some lions through there. I look for tracks at every opportunity but can find none. we've got a bunch of bobcats but I haven't made a positive ID on a cougar yet. Then again? We couldn't find any tracks from the one that was taking my dad's goats but they were still gone! There is no doubt that they are out there because every year somebody kills a grown cat. I think the problem is that nowadays most of us live in the woods only in the daylight. I trapped and hunted Lions with dogs as a kid growing up in the Texas border area from El Paso to Sanderson, Texas...I ranched on the Rosillas Ranch adjacent to the Big Bend national park and we had a hell of a lot of Lions coming on us from Mexico...I probably killed a dozen of so lions on that ranch and a neighbor at Sanderson had 120 hides in his freezer.. The Big Bend country of Texas around Marathon, Alpine, Ft Davis, Presidio, Van Horn is prime Lion country. We have some friends that own a ranch about 25 miles straight acroos country from the ranch we do our javelina hunts on. Their place is south of us, between Fort Stockton and Sanderson. They have two mounted mountain lions in their living room, full body mounts on a "rock" base. Their ranch covers 36,000 acres and both lions were killed on the place. The really interesting part is that the wife killed the second lion with 3 shots from a 22LR as it was hung up in a snare and fighting to get at her. That Trans-Pecos down to the Big Bend is some of the neatest country in the world. JMO. Even the rocks don't last forever.

Supposed to be some bigger cats (with spots) move up through that are too. I read in Smithsonian some years back about a spotted cat in that area. They even had a picture or two. As I recall it was supposed to be a female. Where there's a female there will soon be a male too. I hope there are still a few wild places on this earth where living life has some danger to it. I guess that's why I left the cats alone for so long. I wish there were still ocelot and jagaundi in this part of the world. And even a jaguar from time to time to keep us honest. NO, these pictures came from Oklahoma. I just got an email with them and If I remember correctly they came from Thomas, OK. Surely MY email was correct. Ha! Well, that cat has really been around. Everybody in OK has rumors of someone seeing a mountain lion--in every area of the state. The rumors are about to become as numerous about black bears. Red C. Everything I say is fully substantiated by my own opinion.

I have hunted several different counties in Texas. In the 1980s I was on a hunting lease between Mason and Brady and they found a goat killed by a cougar on the ranch. A state agent came out and confirmed it then baited it with a poisoned goat. No one ever saw it that I heard. Another interesting thing in south Texas is a cat called jaguarundi. It is a long tailed dark colored cat about 40 pounds that is also found in northern Mexico. We saw them occasionally when hunting in Starr county on the Rio Grande. Another time, my wife and I saw one while deer hunting in Uvalde County.
