Since there have been some ardent supporters here on AR...I feel obligated to disclose that the Lion Conservation Task Force Inc. will be dissolved.

Aaron and I feel that with the decision in deliberation phase of the USF&W review...that the LCTF has done all it can do.

I am open to persuasion if anyone has any constructive conversation to propose.

Thanks for everyone for their support. I will continue to personally be involved with the lion as I am sure Aaron will to. I will also remain a moderator on this forum as long as Saeed sees fit.

I've appreciated the efforts of the LCTF as well as the up to date information posted in this section. It certainly made my decision to not delay hunting the African Lion an easy one.

Thank you for your efforts and time.

Thank you guys for stepping up to the plate on this, sorry to hear it's dissolving. Hopefully we see some sort of resolution on this lion thing sooner rather than later.

Let me know if you guys decide to start something new.

Lane,

Thanks for your efforts. I think everybody learned something. Any ideas how this US,F&G lion issue will wash out?

I will add...should someone have the time, money, and desire to keep the org going...I will donate lawyer time to switching ownership/management over to some other and be happy to serve on the board of directors.

I just do not have the time and resources to manage it.

And...with IRS doing the things it does these days...my accounting/legal team recommended that I dissolve it if we don't have real need for it. That is why the decision was made.

It actually saddens me.

Mark,
I think it is guaranteed that the lion will be listed. All we can really hope for is for it to be listed as (T) threatened.

Dr. Easter

While we have had our issues, I must thank you for trying to bring this issue to the forefront and working with the scientists to come up with a statement that at least the industry has rallied to, even if a bit late.

As an aside, I did get a chance to talk with Dr. Al Maki at the SCI convention.

I did ask what they had done with the Lion funds, and he stated that it was on the web site. I mentioned that the web site was long on generalities and short on specifics and he admitted that was so.

He did state that SCI is funding lion research in africa with the money, but that a large part is being readied to fight the legal battle. He declined to give specifics.

Like you, he said that the science does not support a uplisting of the lion, but he expected them to become II(T) like the leopard.

He said that Zambia is really up in the air with regard to lion, but that he (and Johnny DuPlooy) thought Leopard would reopen reasonably soon.

Good luck on your future endeavors.

Hi Dr. Butler,
What you should have asked Dr. Al Maki was why "they" did not rally behind the 'statement' of the definition.

The deal was basically brokered to look at non-listing but worst case scenario a (T).

When SCI did not sign on...the deal went off the table. Now we wait.

They gambled on getting a II (T) listing anyway to strengthen their legal case.

Now we wait!!!

What kind of a message does that send to the world that SCI does NOT endorse best practices "statement" that basically ALL science does agree on???

That is the question I would like to hear an answer too.

But thank you sir for your kind words...I really appreciate them!

Yup. Agreed Jim.

If one takes the time to read the document, they denied a request for reinstatement of a license. He wasn't convicted of anything. This was not a criminal matter.
