Not sure if these qualify but they are Mauser's that Walther tweaked and sold as Model B's. A 7x57 on the left and an 8x57 on the right followed by a few 8x57 close-ups. I love the trigger guard on the 8x57.

Truck guns are special. They should be cheap so we don't care if they get scratched but they should also be darn functional.....such as this .275 Rigby.

It's an original VZ-24 in 7 X 57 and maintains the original barrel and stock

Williams sights were added and a recoil pad I found laying around and a walnut root forend tip.

Toomany Tools blued the barrel and engraved the .275 Rigby for me.

I have about $250 in it all tolled!

The action is 100% original except for a bit of polishing. The trigger, safety, and bolt handle are all original.

It shoots 120 grain TTSX bullets close to 3,000 FPS.....Bambi beware!

These are a work in progress

A pair of vz-24 receivers and parts from various sources (eBay, gunbroker, Sarco) that I plan to Bubba into a 9.3x62 and a 458 of some sort. Goal is to do as much as I can myself for the enjoyment of it, not to have a high end showpiece custom, or in a misplaced thought of economics.

What are you using for bottom metal? Those look like really nice projects so far. Post up some progress reports as you go.

The bottom metal came from Sarco, they didn't specify a maker, just "Commercial Hinged Triggerguards".

A lesson in irony

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us... "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."

Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

I enjoy seeing what has been done to military rifles from days gone by even though I have none of my own to show.

It's now the second day of summer and the dude who started this thread and offered to show his goods has yet to do so even though 19 days have passed by. I wonder why?

Saeed obviously agreed.
Jeffeosso appears to have been appointed The Moderator for this Forum and he seems to have posted this thread to get things started for the rest of us--not as an opportunity for him to show his stuff.
I think it's usually a good idea to figure out what's actually/probably going on before jumping in with insults and criticism.

Kindly point out my insults and/or criticism.

As for 'what's going on' that's what I was waiting 19, now 20 days for...what was promised, no more, no less...pics of his sporterized rifle.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the topic 'show what sporterized rifle ya got?' And you started it for goodness sake. How could a reasonable man think otherwise?

C'mon, it's just ol' show & tell. You certainly don't have to stop earning a living or chopping off those .375" barrels to post a few snapshots, just whenever you have free time and are logged onto AR anyway.

Or you can always renege on your offer to show us your Springfield at the top of this thread if you have had a change of heart since the night of June 3rd. There could be any number of reasons not to show all the AR members your fave 300win . But if the other folks are as anxious as me, we can't wait to be dazzled. After all, I doubt many 300win made on '03 Springfields are in everyone's vault.

Which is it, a curio or a relic? Have you shot it much or lately? Did you do all the work yourself?

igorrock, since i first saw that mosin of yours a couple years ago i don't think its been topped. you still have the nicest mosin sporter i've seen.

here is one of my springfields. it still has the military barrel & is still chambered in 30-06.
its has double set triggers, claw mounts, and a hensoldt dialytan 4x scope. i've never cared to much for the stock so i might restock it in the future but for now its a good shooter.

there was an artice in shotgun news a while back where they removed the lower portion of the magazine and fitted a shotgun triggerguard.
they also relocated the bolt handle to the rear of the bolt.

reprints of the article are avaiable here
i've relocated the bolt handle and filled in the gap in the rear bridge on one of my heavy barrel mosin project rifles

here is one more. it started out as a basket case yugo captured mod98 that had a new barrel. i put it in a stock from great americans bargain bin, reworked the triggerguard, shortened and reshaped the rear sight and did some trading for a rust blue job.

Here are mine:

This pic actually only contains one sporterized gun. That's a 1917 in .375 H&H. The 98 is a commercially produced pre-war Oberndorf, the other is a commercial Husqvarna 9.3x57r.

This is a Steyr M95:

here is a picture of the rear sight on my yugo cap. mod98

i cut 1" out of the middle of the rear sight sleeve then welded it back together, shortened & reworked the ramp & spring then had don markey weld the end of a krag sight to the shortened ladder to make it windage adjustable.
i then reworked the front of the sleeve because it was to square looking. i cut the step on the barrel back to match the shortened sight.

it shoots realy well, i think i have about $350 tied up in it.

June 6 to July 6 and still no pics of this sporter. When does laziness turn into slothfulness? One month?
