...the .333 Jeffery. Wink

Here is my custom-mauser made on a commercial action from the 1920´s. The 25.5 " barrel is metfordrifled as the originals were. The barrelcontour is copied from David Littles jefferymauser. Capacity= 4+1. trigger+ magazin is Recknagel and the english sidemount is golmatic. Express-sights are flipping backwards, regulated for 50-100 and 200 yards.
The gun is rustblued.

But, where's the Talisker? Wink

Seriously, that's a superb rifle, authentic in every way, right down to the cocking piece aperture sight. Wonderfully good taste in all things pictured.

Good luck, and good shooting.

Nifty! And photograhed on top of "African Hunter" if I'm not mistaken.

Did you have this rifle put together in Denmark?? Maybe I'm just uninformed, but I have not run into a lot of custom gunsmiths in DK??

Thank you all gentleman for your fine compliments Smiler

The rifle here is a proof of patience. It takes a loong time to find someone( +$1000 phonebills) who could do the 7 groove segmental metfordrifling which was the rifling of pre-WW1 jefferymausers. Three years of waiting on that expense.
The first gunmaker fxxxxxx up everything and was fired from the project. I finally found someone here in denmark which knew precisly what to do and did all the metal work. I did the stockshaping - the inletting.
I wanted an original mauser(commercial action) for the project...and soon realized it is EXTREMLY HARD. 300 miles from here in denmark, in a small wooden box, with all kinds of actions..THE Oberndorf "BU" marked action popped up as a lightning from a clear sky..the hunt was over dancing. It took my two years of searching...but it paid of Wink
Th english sidemount is made by Golmatic, and requires squarebridging of the action + alot of benchwork. The drop of the stock is 2" from centerline of the bore, perfect for ironsights Cool The rubberpad is Silva ofcouse. The rifle regulates perfect for the express-sights.
All in all this rifle has under way in almost 6 years from projectstart to finish.

Thank you all again here..

Jens,
The Macalan and Bowmore are good whiskies!
As for Talisker, it'd too peppery for my tastes.
What do you think of the Islay malts?

Oh yes, dam fine rifle you have there. thumb

Yes Sir!
My first incountering with a Metfordrifled jefferymauser was a description Charles newton made when he went into a new York gunshop in winter of 1910-1911 and found a jefferymauser in .333cal. He there says:" The barrel is heavier, more substantial lines than german mausers. The rifling is of metford pattern and the bore is mirror polished".
I have this information in Bruce jennings book"The father of high velocity Charles newton".Page 376.
The second time was in verbal form by the barrelmaker, which have had some jefferymausers with metford rifling in his hands.
I know Ellis Metford did experimenting with the gaintwist especially for the .461Gibbs and the .303, but it didn`t bring(gain) anything over normal twist rifling.
I hope that have helped a some Wink
I might add that is was Charles newtons 2 page description/fasination for that rifle and caliber that got me finally to get started for real. It all touched deep into to my soul...later it hit the wallet..$$$$$$.... hahaha

Yeah, it's an enigma for me too. These must be rare in the extreme, if they ever existed at all. I've handled quite a few pre-WWI Jeffery.333s, both magazines and doubles, and have never seen nor heard of one with Metford rifling. The RAs disastrous experiment with Metford and smokeless had been abandoned for 13 years by 1908, and I can't imagine someone like Jeffery choosing it for such a cartridge at such a late date.

Tak skal du have Hr Rigby... Smiler

The rifle will be shooting 300grain bullets only. It is here the .333jeffery became known for killing effect. It was Nystrøm & Krabbe A/S here in denmark that put the rifle together.
I use 64grain N160 powder, Fed 215 primer, Horneber brass and 300 grain woodleighs, gives me 690 meter/sec of MV.
I have plans one day to take this rifle into Ehtiopias mountains (my dream safari)

Thanks ya`ll

I forgot to mention this rifle(barrel) here is proofed by London proofhouse, with all the markings etc. Visable on the right side of the barrel.
The gunmakes used some time to get this .333 Jeffery cartridge to feed well from the magazinebox. Like all mausers, each cartridge require some fitting in order to feed perfect.
The ramp on the action has two small "tracks" milled out so the cartridge, regardless which side it lays in the magazine will always "catch" the ramp and slide smoothly into the chamber. Wink

Funny you should ask about Islay malts. Recently acquired a bottle of Bruich Laddich (18 year, I believe) which is simply very fine. Unlike the other Islay malts I have sampled.
