you're walking on a beach and find a bottle....rub it and a genie appears and says....Congratulations....you're King for the day and any decision you make will stand for decade or more.

You can name three cartridges to become commercial ammo and available at the local hardware store but for each one you must obsolete two.

What's going to be new.....and what's to be obsoleted?

my new ones are:
6.5-06
.338-06
.375 Taylor

To be obsoleted:
.220 Swift.....again
.17 Remington
all four WSMs

Somewhat similar thoughts to Vapodog (must be a Nebraska thing)...

Commercially available at your local Wally World:
6.5x284
.338-06
.41 Special (handgun)

Obsolete:
.22 Hornet
.32 H&R Mag
All SAUMs

Oh and by special decree: No cell phone usage while driving, offenders will have their ears lopped off Razzer !

I agree with your new ones except instead of a 338-06 how about a 8.5x57 ? ( 338 bullet in a 8x57 case) Isn't the 338-06 A Square a factory round?

Obsolete?

Well I'm tired of people ranting about the 270. It's good, but hey, people can be tiresome when praising it. (don't tell me, I know, it's a great round, this is a fantasy after all), anyway the 6.5-06 is IMHO better.
The 8mm Rem mag.
The 458 Win mag.

358 Norma mag I know it was chambered at one time
323 Hollis loaded with a good 200gr bullet.

Discontinue
260
and all the WSM WSSM and Remington short mags too.

It is a 308 Norma mag necked up to 8mm. It is one hell of a round. I'm able to get 3200 FPS with a 200gr slug. This is done with 79.0gr H4831 and my rifle has 25 1/2 inch barrel too.

Boy,

Aren't we all hasty to condemn somebodies pet pig to purgitory. Jeez whats wrong with the 22 hornet? I don't need a 260 but somebody for sure likes it. And the 270 fans might be aggragant minions of Jack O Conner, again why obsolete it?

Sure I have rounds I see no earthly use for, the 350 Rem Mag comes to mind, the 6.5 on the same case isn't much better, and I never figured out what a 25-35 was good for: not accurate enough in lever guns for varmits, not powerful enough deer what is it good for possums?

Anyway,

Rounds I would like to see, are a 400 Whelen that really worked and didn't have headspacing issues. let call it the 400 Whelen modified. Second would be a not so short WSM case ( 30-06 length cartridge ) in a 375. Does this exist anywhere except my head? And the 6.5x284 which just might get to factory on its own merits yet.

But most importantly my favorite 30 mag the 30-338 which is my first choice.

But all the ammo in the world won't help if factory rifles aren't made, what does that get us, but a almost wildcat.

Don't you dare make my 260 obsolete Smiler I have a very nice lightweight short and nimble custom rifle chambered in that caliber and I have to fight my wife for using it cause she loves it too.

Hard to find anything wrong with your choice of new factory rounds. Course you cheated the genie with the "all four WSM's" and now he's only gonna give you a 22 short!

Sorry there High Speed Low drag Big Grin but the good ol 6.5 swede will do what the 260 will do all day long with know problems and short actions a overrated anyhow. What they also need to do is start chambering the 6.5-284 that round will kill the 260 and probaly the swede to. Load it with a good 120gr something bullet and a good 140 and one would have an all purpose deer and elk round with a good a 140gr slug.

There's going to be trouble in the kingdom when your subjects discover their 8MM mausers are "kaput"

The .240 weatherby?...Hell we can get along fine with all the weatherby cartridges obsoleted. There's not a one of them worth the extra powder to make them work over their parent cartridges.

    schromf,
Why so serious this is hardly a serious proposition?
If one were King, and one were so inclined, banning the 270 would be a great ammount of fun. It would be like banning the Democrats, (which are not as important as the 270), a lot of people would complain but it would be grand watching the reaction to the announcement.
One of the perks of being king is autocratic power. It's 'cus such power currupts we don't have them much any more.
Anyway the 270 would be reinstated the next day, much worse though, so would the Democrats. Wink

Mass produce the 6.5/284 and something that resembles a 358/300 Dakota.

Put the Kabosh on the 7mm STW and 30/378.

Or another step in the right direction would be to make an entire line of non belted cartridges like the 300 Dakota, 376 Steyr Etc. and kill everything with a belt that doesnt end with H&H. Big Grin

have the 250-3000 savage, 257roberts, 6.5x55 more readily available. And while we are at it Savage will begin producing the Savage 99's again, Winchester will go back to making the model 88, winchester will also go back to making great quality rifles like they did pre 1964, Ruger will begin putting the safety in the right place as they use to--on the tang, and warnings will no longer be engraved on barrels, or at least not where they are visible, and all this "extra" safety junk like the cross bolt safety will GO AWAY!!
