aparently you can be 10 thou off and still be saami complient! 30-06 brass casehead can range from 473" to 463"!!! too sloppy imho how about keeping the brass between .473" and .470" brass manufacturers are cutting costs by using less brass and are trying to save money by letting the tooling wear down so they start at .463" and change the tooling at .473" but most likely keep it undersize to save money n brass give me spec or go to heck! i thought they wouldn't be doing it to be cheap but turns out i am wrong. accuracy, preasure and velocity suffer. it seems only norma makes brass to spec. it seems today you have to buy the brass first than have the chamber cut to the brass lott to have a decent fit. this is bad practice is nothing sacred we have the right to bear arms and damm it i want tight brass too 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. boomie.. DECAF ALL brass is undersized in non-critical dimensions, it has to be to be assured it will fit into a small end chamber the spec is generally -.003, not -.010. opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Some of the saami standards are based on very old cartridges designed back when holding those tolerances was more difficult. Check out the chamber to case head of the .303 British, an even older round. Such clearances plays hell with a small round like the .22 Hornet which has a lot of clearance for its diameter. On the other hand for modern rounds to continue sloppy chamber to case neck and body fits can only be justified for dirt clearance and ease of manufacturing.

BS.....I wasn't aware that there was .010 tolerance in case head.....I'd have far rather believed Jeff's comment about .003 tolerance.....can you copy a link to something to confirm this .010 tolerance? /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Some companies will sell you 6.5X55 brass with the same head diameter as the .30-06 which I think is irresponsible.

The small 6.5x55 looks funny, but it still works.

a second source confirmed the saami is +0 and -.010 and within saami spec. 30-06 casehead can be .471 to .461 but most keep it within -.005 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. (Founder)

If you are too cheap to pay SAAMI, then pay $2 and buy the used book "Handloading" by Davis with the SAAMI dimensioned and toleranced drawings up to 1980. 30-06 case at base per SAAMI is .4698 - .008" 30-06 chamber at base per SAAMI is .4708 + .002" Most chambers and cartridges are at the bottom end of the allowable range. The Glock 40 S&W chamber may be as big as it can get, but that is the exception.

I ran into the same problem with 06 brass a few months ago too. All the new brass I measured was in the .463"-.464" range. I found some older brass and it was around .469". Total bs as far as I'm concerned. I do my best to cut nice tight match quality chambers only to end up with brass thats like having 4 different tires on a Ferrari. To answer your question, YES saami it too loose.
