o.k. if ruger is smart they will make the 350 ruger mag. use the new 375 ruger mag brass, keep the same body taper and shoulder angle of the 375 but make it a 2.170" and neck to 358... should be a great new woods 35 thumb

if they dont you can do it and the reamer will clean up any 350 rem chamber. get a little more oomph out of yer 350 rem thumb

they should to that AND the 2.1" 375 too Big Grin

if you need to trim the rims down to 470 salute

Boom stick,
Yes they should ... but they wont ... not a short cartridge so soon! But a standard length 35Ruger would be sweet ... particularly if they use the 1:12" barrel that the 350RemMag has. Likewise Remington should have let the 350RemMag die and put a 35RSAUM together in their Model 7 and 673. Another lost opportunity Wink
Cheers...

does anyone have a good guess the power diff between the 350 ruger mag abd the 350 rem mag? i guess it would be best with heavier bullets...

"if they are smart"...

They will hit the 270, 7, 300, and 338, , as that is, in order, the preference of american deer hunters.. 270 win, 7rem, .308 anything, .338, and then us nuts with the .375.

the 35s have NEVER been (in the US) commerically popular, though a few of us consider them to be the cat's meow

they have NO reason to make it in a short action, as the 358win covers that end, nicely, thanks... they have 2 actions (well, 4, but let's keep it simple) lengths, and the 375 case, after developement, would be their base platform for their next devs...

let's face it, short rounds sold well as a marketing hype, but are nearly as "silly" as belts....

yes they are as silly as belts but if you have a short action or manufactured them it could make sense.

some might not want the high velocity or the recoil. if the 375 ruger can do 2700 with 300 grainers Roll Eyes if a 2.1" version gets close to 2400 that would be great.

being that a 2.1" version would have more capacity than the 06 it would be a great 06, 338-06, 35 whelen, 375 hawk and 411 hawk alternative Big Grin

if i had a 350 rem i would think twice or thrice to have a 300 gr 375 bullet to go 2400 Smiler

true true 242...

the added girth of the ruger (532 vs 500) will give a substantial boost though...

yes i thought of this when i was throwing around the short action ruger in my head... the wapiti will be a smidge better. but since hypotheticly ruger is making these they would most likely use their own brass.

My favorite hunting rifle/round is the original M600/.350 RM.

One question as to converting or a new cartridge that has more powder capasity in a short action rifle... Since 99% of the hunters can't handle the current .350 RM/200 grain factory load, let alone the old 250 grain factory load, this "new" cartridge is going to be even less shootable in guns that the a .35 caliber short action rifle should be made...a light, short barreled, well balanced, fast handling carbine. Many people say that the reason that the .358 Winchester never made it big was because it "kicked too much"...and they didn't even like to address the .350 RM.

However I would really like to see a .350 Ruger as in a long action gun with a 22" barrel as it would give a lot more velocity than a .35 Whelen and probably more than the .358 Norma Mag...

But then again if one can't get it done with a .350 RM, one probably need to start looking at calibers that start with the number "4"...

hey Boom,
lets just wait and see what the 375 Ruger does.

I'm with Jeffe, they need to also do the 7, 30, and 338 as that's where the sales are.

I would be tickeld pink to get a nice .358 Norma. belts don;t acomplish much but they don't bother me much either.
I think a .358 norma or a beltless version would be Perfect for Alaska, put a VX3 1.5X5 in QD mounts and use the scope for say a 225 grain tsx and the sights for a round nose .250 grain load.
Better talk ruger into using a better but pad first though !
