I will be interested in seeing these, and a list of ctg's.

btw, DGR, on WSM's, my opinion is that it seems the 270 and some 300's are selling in WSM, don't hear of many others, esp. the WSSM's. I was just telling my buddy about the WSM and how the 350RM was a 'short mag' that came out years ago, but failed to be a commercial success-but not for lack of performance, rather improper marketing, as others ctg's were killed by gunwriters for being improperly 'niched'

If they'd listened to me, they'd have put the safety back on the tang...... FWIW, Dutch.

If they would get rid of that angled front receiver screw that would be a HUGE improvement also.

So far I like what I'm hearing... What would be nice is if the new trigger is a drop in replacement for the old "lawyer inspired" unit...

I do like the current safety somewhat better than the Winchester, but I love the tang on my #1's the most, angled screw, heard about the pros/cons, not sure if they would change it.

I am interested to see them when they come out.

It looks like they have cured about 90% of the complaints on the old 77 MkII. Great to see some decent looking irons on the African and Alaskan model. Looks like they are listening to the real rifle nuts, maybe we'll see the 9.3x62 and .338-06 now.

From the looks of that recoil pad its just the old one. It's not nearly thick enough.

Sorry for the blurry pics but I did it in a rush by taking a picture of the computer screen. It takes a long time to download that pdf even with a fast connection.

Seafire, I saw that, and seen an article at the newstand on it.

For me personally, I have little interest need in 223, and would choose a cheaper bolt for accuracy.

I DO have an interest in say a AR platform in 6.5 Grendel, or even a 6.5x47 or 260. Those rounds have light enough recoil, plenty of killing power, and the larger one's plenty of reach for various 'varmints' one might need to shoot. Deer also would be an option.

I will have to see the price on the new Ruger mini but it still likely will be in 223 only, and for varmints on the small end I differ from the masses perhaps and like the 221 and 222. Lots of use with 40's and Lil Gun. Cannot argue with cheap wide available 223 surplus ammo.

It would be a hoot to plink I am sure, and might make a bang up truck gun and/or coyote rifle.

This 375 Ruger Hawkeye should get a bunch of play in Alaska. Power, weatherproof and handy with a better trigger. If I were stil up there and didn't already have too many rifles as I do I'd seriously consider one.

Mark, I agree and see only one downside, getting ammo might be tougher than H&H if you get in a bind. Always good to plan well in advance and hopefully not worry about needing.

Ruger has REALLY been needing to revamp the trigger to get competitive. They are usually crisp and consistent though.

I like em except for the Hogue overmolded stock gun. The Hogue stocks may be practical but they are one of the Butt-Ugliest stocks out there. The new wood stock appears to be a nice refinement of one of the better shaped wood stocks out there.
I'm looking forwards to trying out the new trigger. If it's as good as the 2-stage version they put on the target models it will be very good indeed.
Now if we can just get to see them in stores before 2008...................DJ

IIRC the firearm news on the ruger website.

The M77 Hawkeye "Alaskan" chambered in .375 Ruger features a matte black finish, a handy 20" barrel, and a Hogue® OverMolded™ synthetic stock. It will be available in early 2007. The M77 Hawkeye "African," also in .375 Ruger and available in early 2007, features a 23" blued barrel and checkered walnut stock. A left-handed "African" model will be available in mid-2007.

Bwana-be, you might be right, I am sure Ruger will let inventories dry up some before flooding the market with the new guns, else the wholesalers have to offer nice discounts, and that might happen.

Raffica,

Have you tried a new one lately? Can you elaborate? I think the actions are dead reliable, a great scope mounting system, and a smooth consistent bore, heavy but consistent triggers, they always stood behind products in my experience the few times I dealt with them, and the finish seems consistent gun to gun.

Not a Mercedes, but not priced as one either. I think they are good solid working guns for hunters. Just my opinion. If I were limited to 1 rifle to hunt the world, I could rely on one in confidence in the right chambering. I would personally want a Ruger over a Remington any day for that one rifle. They work.

That is my opinion. I have shot Rem's, Wins, Ruger, Sako, and many others., and more than my share of the formers, not just a few a piece.

I think they are a good value for what they offer. The stocks fit me great also. Sure, I like old world labor and forgings i.e. Sako but if you are on a budget, I think Ruger can get the job done in a big game gun. Triggers can use lightening. The guns always functioned without fail and I cannot say that is the case with others, just ask how you would feel if you had a bolt handle fall off a Remington? Another topic.

I do realize years ago Ruger's outsourced barrels sucked. No mistake about it. That was then.

After dealing with ruger for years I have had enough... A ruger is a utility gun, At $300 they are a great gun.... Not at three times that much... After the last deal when my new m77 shot like shit I threw a no go gauge in it at the rifle went full into battery...When asked the "gunsmith in charge" said we only use field gauge to check them, and if it will not close on a field gauge will not do any repairs... And after talking to several other people there the "close enough" mindset is the best you will get...

Thanks but, No thanks

I kind-of like it when people state all these terrible comments on the Rugers, it makes the price come down.

I guess I've had phenominal luck with mine. They're tang safties too! Nate

Every body complains about the ruger trigger it is one of the easist fixes out there. For around 50 bucks and a hr of one time you can have a great trigger. Just get ou the brownells catalog and order a after market.

I find Ruger firearms one of the best values on the marget. All gun makers turn out some crap all turn out some great stuff most is in the middle.

Most factory rifles need trigger and bedding work to get the most out of them.

I think Ruger is going in the right direction.
