But, I do have one of the new Winchester Model 70's on order in 7-08. The 7-08 is as close as I could get to the 7x57 with the new M-70.

hard to believe, but i have never shot a 7-08. i am sure a fan of the 7x57. 7x57 was tied with the 25-06 as my favorite cartridge until i bought an 8x57. must say, think that is probably the best medium bore ever made. real horse power downtown without much in the way of recoil. i like the 200 grain 8x57 just a bit more than the 175 7mm.

would still like to try a 7-08. think a model 7 loaded with 175 grain round nosers would be a great rifle.

It's pretty amazing that we have the 270 Win, 270 Wby, 7x57, 7/08, 280 Rem, 7mm Rem Mag, 7mm Wby Mag, not even mentioning the newer short mags. Yet all seem to be doing well.

I have a Ruger m77 'old style' and my dad has a rem 700 mtn rfl, both in 7mm08. Mine was my first high powered rifle and knocked me around a bit at the age of 10. I hit my first doe through the tender loins and first buck through the jugular. Twenty years later, my buck fever is under control and I have still never had any animal, whitetail, coyote, bobcat, or hog, go more than 10 ft. after being shot with this potent little round (we use various 140gr bullets). My 7mm mag has yet to make a clean, instant kill on a whitetail. I've been using 150gr bal tips and get unbelievable damage and good blood trails (haven't lost any) but they all run 50 to 100 yds. The 7mm08 is just a sweet little round. I do believe that you can be both under and over gunned. I'd love to have an '08 in a Model seven. What do ya'll think about multiple guns in the same caliber?

Geedubya, that is a very nice blackbuck. The 7-08 seems to grow more popular with each passing year, especially as a "first rifle" instead of the .243 for young hunters given its suitability for elk with proper bullets.

Just another gun nut myself! Thought I'd found nirvana with a 7mm-08 Remington M-7 Mannlicher and a 7x57mm Mauser 66, until I encountered a .260 Remington M-7 Mannlicher. Now, after eight years with the .260, my 7mm-08 has been eclipsed. Sure, the 7mm-08 took another whitetail this past season in another "test" of .260 vs 7mm-08, and technically I cannot fault the 7mm-08, except that the 140 grain Federal load messed more meat than the 140 grain R-P did on a like sized deer the same day.

I won't sell my 7mm-08, but I do believe that when my goal is venison in the freezer and the deer are our little Texas Whitetails, Axis, or Fallow, the .260 trumps them all.

Just bought my 10 yr old son a Remington 700sps compact in 7mm-08 topped with a zeiss conquest 3-9x40mm scope. I guess Remington doesn't make the model 7 youth synthetic in 7mm-08 so I had to go the other route. We have a trip planned to Africa and I hope he gets a chance to shoot some game/cartridge appropriate animals. This is the first 7mm-08 I/he owns so I hope it works out ok. We have a lot of practice shooting to do before we go so with that in mind I bought some of remington's managed recoil ammo to practice with. Once he gets more proficient we will make the switch to the 140gr nosler partitions. Any thoughts or recommendations?
Thanks,Bill

I just bought a Remington model seven SS magnum in 7mm SAUM, its very accurate and compact, with ballistics very similar to the 7 rem mag in a short action, so far i love it, and yes i handload so im not worried about it being a dead cartridge.

With that said, i would have had no problems with a model seven in 7-08, i have never owned one but with all the 7mm bullets out there, it can be tailored for just about any kind of big game hunting.

With a 120gr Barnes TTSX in the SAUM i can drive that bullet to around 3,350fps out of its 22" barrel! Talk about a great whitetail/ coyote load! I would use that load with confidence against any big game except brown bears and African DG. Should also prove to be a great one in the 7mm-08

My favorite general puppose rifle calibre is the 308. I will NEVER own a 7-08.

However, I think the 7-08 is a great cartridge.
I have shot friends rifles in that calibre, and I have seen game killed game with them.

Me three on the 8x57. I have one in the making and it's almost finished.

I've never shot a 7-08, but I would like to. I have the assembly for one - a Winchester 70 push feed short action, a LW 7mm barrel, an accurate innovations stock, Williams bottom metal, scope, bases, rings, sling - everything but bullets. It just needs asssembly, but it hasn't risen to the top of the list yet.

I have a Sako 75 Stainless Synthetic in 7mm08. Its very accurate with anything I feed it and a pleasure to shoot. Great rifle to hunt with although maybe a tad heavy by todays standards.

Also in the same caliber class I have a 308 win in a Stainless/Wood Model 70 - not as accurate as the Sako but good enough & I love the 308.

Just recently got a 270win in a MK5 Ultralight Weight which I have yet to get to the range to try out. Its pretty light at 6,6lbs field ready!! Cool

I have used the 7-08 on whitetails and African game. I normally use 140 gr. partitions on deer and I used 160 gr. partitions in Africa.

I also use a 270 WSM, 30-06, and 338 Win Mag.

Had a model 7 7-08 20 years ago. Cant think of anything bad to say about it. Didnt think a better short action round existed. Until I bought a 260, just because it was different. It was the best move I ever made!

Yep! I use my 7mm-08 for most of my big game hunting. It has taken smaller plains game in Namibia, black bear in Canada, and whitetails, pronghorn, hogs, javelina, etc. here in the States.

I am currently shooting the 140 gr. TTSX's and TSX's in it.

For hunting here in WY I have a ULA 7-08 with a 25" barrel shooting 140 TSX's for just about everything except big bull elk. It doesn't go with me for anything in bad bear country. There I use my 375 H & H or one of my doubles.

I've never shot a 7-08, maybe because I don't know anyone who owns one. Some day I will try it.

I do have a Ruger 77 in 7x57 and a Remington 700 "Classic" in 8x57, both of which I really like! My favorite "light game" rifle though, is my M70 Featherweight in 6.5x55.

All of these are fun shooting without undue trauma to the shoulder and excellent performance down range.

Picked up my new Model 70 in 7-08 this past Friday. Here's a pix of another newly made M-70 7-08 that looks exactly like mine. I can't tell any difference between this one and mine. Stocks are identical, no figure... Big Grin
I just haven't taken a pix of mine yet.
Mine weighs 6 pounds 10 ounces as received. Barrel is fully free floating too. And the balance is superb.
Gotta brew up some loads later today. The scope bases came today in the mail, so I'm hot to go shoot it as soon as I mount a scope and throw some loads together. Prepped 50 cases last week.

I have been a fan of the 260 and the 243 for a long time... so I just built my first 7/08...

it was on a Savage stainless single shot action with a 26 inch heavy target/varmint factory contoured barrel on it...( aftermarket barrel)...

got a synthetic stock from one of the online classifieds and spray pointed it OD Green, as the previous owner tried some funcky digital paint job camo, that bombed out...

just finished screwing it all together just an hour ago.. still got to pick up some scope bases for it....

the 7/08 barrel was my choice over a 308 barrel...

also have a mil dot 6.5 x 20 scope ready to go on it..
