not that the 480 ruger and 475 or 500 linebaugh or 500 s+w need any tinkering but what about necking the 475, 500 linebaugh, 500 s+w and 480 ruger to 458 bullets to take advantage of all the great cheap 45-70 bullets?

lee Matin necked the 500 Linebaugh down to 458. I believe SSK industries did the 500 S&W magnum. And I'm doing the 475 linebaugh and 480 ruger.

Boomstick man.....one of my favorite bullets and in my Marlin "unmentionable caliber" guide gun it affords excellent accuracy, and killing power.

it will do modern 45-70 velocities in a semi auto...

can you immagine throwing 525 gr piledrivers @1800fps with a pull of a trigger up to at least 7 times or more!!!

You and I think alike. I've already necked the 500 wyoming express down to 475,458 and 451. Reamers are being made.

The 45-70 short, ie 1.4" case has already been done, was in handloader about 5 years back, and as I recall, is called the 458 express.

What about a 45-70 BFR and rechamber the cylinder for a 50-110 necked to 458 or the 450 Alaskan?
