I put some 500 grips on it, from SW, recoil is very nice, very easy to shoot, and I am taking it, to the field, as part of my Kit for the Axis Doe/Hog hunt in 11 days!!

I can see why you like it so.

I prefer the 44 Mag, as I have been using the 44 Mag since 1970.

The N Frame Mountain Gun is the perfect rendition of a big bore woods carry gun.

I carry mine a lot in the city as well.

PS You need to look for a spare, as they are so good you can not only have just one. Big Grin

OB - the K,N,and X (therefore L) roundbutts all use the same grip, as I understand it! ..and the N and X are perfectly interchangable!

Tony,
I certainly am looking for a spare, but the price will need to be right. I imagine in 6-8 months, they'll come on down, just like last time.

I thought the K and the X are interchangeable -- I know the N frame is different than the K

Er... just realized, I believe, that you put an X frame grip on an N frame...

heh -- K, L, N, X are totally interchangable, if the gun is roundbutt.. one grip might be cross screw, one might be butt screw, and the 500grip comes with a "frame" that attaches to make it work with a buttscrew. I found out by asking Rodney if I could try to see f his xframe grip, with a padded backstrap, would fit on my N .. worked fine, even with the N on the X, but no one shot THAT combo

Dogchaser, i bought directy from smith, at a members suggestion.

I concur! When Colt brought out the Anaconda I was able to buy one of (supposedly) six four-inch revolvers chambered in 45LC. It is the perfect packing handgun.

Why not use @10gr of Unique. Confused

Save 2400 for a REAL handgun, a 44 Mag. Big Grin

Just kidding, but Unique will give you the same velocity with less recoil, and noise.

A lot of people have switched from Unique to Universal Clays, but I cannot change.

I am too old and lazy to develop new loads.

That's great, Jeff! Can't argue with that accuracy -- but I would sleep better at night knowing you were using heavy hardcasts over those shiny bullets...... jumping

Doubtless, thank you, and i may very well take you up on that. I am going to hunt with the shiney bullets, as Marco says, next week, and I am staying pretty focused on that just now.

Boxhead - i am NOT a pistolaro.. i am a turnbolt rifle guy, and love them. I have a mission to try to learn to shoot pistol better, and this one lets me do that. To answer your question, its a new new new model.. with the "case" trigger and hammer.. why case trigger and hammer? because steel can be hardened deeply, while small stainless parts WILL loose there surface harding and begin to wear. its got the lock, its alll high tech parts, and it shoots like a house afire.. and, guys, its the GUN that shoots.. I bet Marco or Tony could shoot quarter sized groups with it. I am like a football bat when it comes to pistols.. learning more every time I am at the range.

Jeffe,
MANY thanks for the link to the grips, I have a 629PD (Scandium frame, Ti Cylinder) that generates "respected" recoil. I have shot 6 rounds through it with the wood grips and about a half a box with the factory rubber grips but I now have the 500 grips on order (thanks to your link) I look forward to shooting the "new" gun.

Marco, in my case, i always carry a pistol hunting.. or nearly as much as possible. But with the 625, there's a reasonable chance the pistol will get the first shot, rather than clean up!

As far as 240 xtps go....I like the Hornady factory loads @ 1900 from a 6" but alas this may not be achievable from a 45Colt

Jeff, my .454 is more of a toy than a tool. I am a rifleman at heart. Thats why I got the 1885 in .454.
