Hey I am playing 45 Colt this morning a little bit! Since I found my DW in a box I figured to play with some of my 45s a bit, while doing serious load development on the 9.3. What you planning to shoot with the 45 Colt and what bullet/load you thinking???

I have had some really good tests in years past with the 250 Gold Dot and 20 grs of 2400. Works perfect in the little rifles, and great in the S&W and up---Not for Taurus or SAAs! Using 8 grs of Unique for the Taurus and SAA.

Today I want to try some 300 Gold Dots in the DW and a couple other things.

hornady 240gr MAG xtp, 16.9gr of 2400.
Should be a 100 yard from a stand deer and hog load.

yeah, i know, go heavier and faster... but, seriously, a 45 in the neck does kill em

That giving about 1000 fps or so??? I doubt you getting any expansion with the Hornady.

No, you won't hear faster or heavier from me. Not a velocity freak at all, and I really don't like shooting heavy handgun loads, hurts my hands!

I am getting excellent expansion and bullet performance from the 250 Gold Dot from 750 fps to a max of 1450 fps. Past 1450 it blows apart. 20/2400 I think gives me around 1100 and change in 4 inches a good working velocity for the bullet.

I worked a lot with the 250 Hornady--I had to get over 1500 before expansion occurred. The same bullet in 300 grs performed better and at lower.

Today with the 300 Gold Dot I was getting good expansion at 1100 fps.

i should have the scope shooting NEXT weekend, all things considered ... i am hoping, with a 5 moa dot, to hit the top of it at 50 and in the dot at 100 ... and it will hit about 900 fps at 100 .. it will kills pigs and deer!
