Fascinating, as Spock would say. I would not have expected the .50 AE to do more damage than the .454 Casull. Someone needs to loan these guys a Smith .460 with all copper bullet. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

Really neat super high speed resolution shots! Would love to see a rifle caliber video, especially a 50 BMG! Shoot Safe, Mike NRA Endowment Member

Watching those bullet impact videos always mesmerizes me. Fascinating! Don't limit your challenges . . . Challenge your limits

Very impressisve video! I shoot several pistols and rifles at steel plates at our range almost every week. I obviously can't see the details that the 250k fps camera shows, but I regularly find the "lead dimes and nickles" on the ground beneath the steel plate and I can see the dust and holes in the ground below and on the sides of the plate made from the bullet fragments hitting there. I am years late replying to this thread. I am not sure why they wasted time using low velocity rounds other than for entertainment. As I think we all know, it takes a very hard projectile, very high velocity, or both to penetrate armor plate. Get a 220 Swift or something similar pushing one of the discontinued first gen Barnes .224" solid copper bullets at a >= 4,000 fps impact velocity and see what happens to that AR-500. I would imagine the bullet would melt and burn through. The low velocity approach would be a .458 Lott with one of those discontinued Speer .458" Tungsten Core 500 grain solids at 2,250 or 2,300 fps. Maybe even a .458 WM at 2,150 fps would do it? I imagine it would be a sub-caliber hole where the bullet stopped and the tungsten continued and penetrated. One thing is for sure after seeing the high speed footage, people betting their ass on plain AR-500 for body armor without some sort of anti-spalling lining are going to be very hurt or worse with just about anything over a 22 LR.
