I just picked up this warthog mount from my taxidermist and thought you might like to see it.I don't know if these pix do it justice. It is the combination of the biggest bodied warthog I've ever seen(6.5' from nose to tip of tail and 26" at the shoulder)plus a set of pick up tusks I found in Mozambique that are 16.5"x15.5". My taxidermist used the biggest form he could buy and added a lot of extra clay to build the form up to fit the skin. I'm very happy to have this addition to my trophies.

The sable on the right I also just picked up. It is 45.25" and I think it looks very nice facing the other sable of 42.5". It surprised me that a couple of inches of horn made this sable look much bigger than other one.

Amazing set of Tusks, and the size of the warthog is something. Did you shoot the hog?
Both Sable are superb trophies.

Steve,

I did shoot the warthog in Mozambique in '07. The pig had good tusks of about 12"-13" and I fully intended to mount it lifesize anyway because I've been looking for a big boy with the long flowing hair like this one has. On the same safari we found the old pig who had died of natural causes right in the road one afternoon. I immediately knew what I wanted to do with those incredible tusks.

This area in Mozambique is loaded big pigs and I could have shot a 12"+ everyday. It is also excellent for spiral horns. Very few predators make an ideal habitat for them.

Thanks for the comments I've been very lucky with sable.

Mark

Sable? What was the trophy fee on them? I saw a 14,000 trophy fee for sable on a RSA website.

rhromm,

In RSA I would not be surprised by that trophy fee. I'm sure at $14,000 they knew the SCI score of the animal because it had been bought at auction to be shot.

In Zim you'll pay about $3,500-$4,500 trophy fee for a wild sable. IN Zambia around $5,000 unless your buying by the inch on a game farm. In Tanzania we charge $3,800 with our own company there.

Seth,

Not a lot to say about the goat. I took it late season when the hair is very long and just could not afford a lifesize so a rug was the only way to show off the coat. Atecheson Taxidermy in Butte, MT did the rug and I've been very happy with it.
