Howdy folks,

While I'm trying to figure out if the CDC allows importation of baboon hides, I'm looking for interesting ideas for baboon mounts. I though about having a full mount holding a cigar ash tray or something like that.

An open mouth skull mount might be nice too.

Pictures? Thanks

The CDC will allow it to be imported, a buddy of mine had one imported a few years ago. I do not have a picture of his mount but he had the bust done and had it put on top of a rock.

I'm not much for novelty style taxidermy. The best baboon mounts I have seen were Euro skull mounts. The baboon skull is really striking on its own.

Try a search as they have been posted before holding drink trays, etc.

Was it Jerry Huffaker who posted some?

Edit:

Check this thread for a mount by Bowhunr.

308 Sako's baboon.

More baboon pics.

I'm planning to have one dressed like a butler and holding a drink tray.

most of the cdc problems comes from the skull, so leave it there. while the raw hide is importable, it will cause some grief, better to have it mounted over there. i did one walking down a tree limb, one in a guard dog posture thats guarding the door to my office, and another sitting scratching his head, whose name is the chief estimator (great for pesky salesmen, just tell em to see the chief estimator) not sure yet about this years

Shoot 3 of them. Have full body mounts sitting side by side: one with its hands over its eyes, one with its hands over its ears, and the 3rd with its hands over its mouth. clap

Exactly. I saw one recently that really drew my attention and that was in a room full of skulls. They really look like a distorted person's head.

While the have some massive canines and can be somewhat impressive I think baboons are generally so obnoxious and have blown enough stalks for hunters that it is ok to have alittle fun at their expense if you want a novelty mount.

Baboons and their skulls can come in thought they require additional treatment at a USDA approved facility.

We recently received and competed this one from Zimbabwe.

teat hound,

I plan on having mine mounted seated with his index fingers pointing and touching, arms hinged so they can hold a roll of TP. Oh yeah, his mouth is going to be wide open. It should encourage the intended response.

I like 308 Sako's mount,Artistry's picture and most others but I think that 'novelty mounts' are cheesy and crap and often in poor taste...but of course if you shoot it, you should mount it as you please...

When I think of baboons I remember a visit as a very young boy to the local zoo where I saw a baboon masterbating. I remember asking Mom what he was doing and getting drug away from the baboon cage at lightening speed.
