Went hunt way up and back,,, found some fresh tracks and after a couple hours and a mile or so came up on this one and 2 others bedded down under a rockcliff,,,, shot this one where it lay and the other 2 left through a laural thicket fast, mine rolled downhill a few feet,,, long drag out but the Hog has all become deboned pork and is in the fridge awaiting the pressure canner

http://cid-86f11e537cb9c8bf.sk...e.aspx/Hog%202-13-10

7mm-08 and 120BT hammered it well,,, entered beside the right eye, and took out a couple neck bones,,,, hog was looking at me from 70 yards so I shot fast unsupported standing, hit a couple inches left of where I was aiming,,,,,but the effect was the same, only shot I had was at the face

2nd Hog of the year,,,, guess my hunting season is over, wish they would lift the limit on these critters,,,, they cause way to much of a mess, these three had plowed up 3 different springheads while I was trailing them this morning. I flat out love to track down a hog in the snow way up and back, hunting at it's best for me

Real nice......sounds like a good hunt.......always nice when tracks actually lead to something alive.

Excellent pix. Fresh snow is something we only get once or twice a year around here.

If they've got a limit on hogs in NC, they won't have it for long, I'll bet.

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

I shot one day before yesterday evening, about a 120 pound sow, luckily was able to give it away so I didn't have to clean it. Damn, I'm getting old, she was hard to get loaded on that 4 wheeler. I usually drag them but I didn't want to give one away covered in mud.

I shot really poorly, was shooting through some brush and killed the sow with first shot, clipped (I think) a 25 pound pig with second shot, he squealed, bailed off in the creek, came up right behind me at about 15 feet, missed the little SOB twice more running behind me, hard to follow in a scope, even on 2.5x that close.

Naturally, I only had 4 bullets with me (in gun), so after shooting dry on the pig, like an idiot, a really big sow would have given me a very decent shot at about 150 yards. Grrrrrrr.......

Always carry a couple spares ;^),,,, here in the Mnts of NC they are called wild boar and are treated as big game animals by the NC DNR,,,, the rest of the state and they are feral hogs with no limits,,,, kinda stinks as they are spreading around here, they did make the season longer this year by a couple months,,, both I shot this year were outside of the old season but within the new. Our limit is 2 here in the Mnts. The hogs here in the Mnts do have more european boar blood in them but thats from pure blood boar escaping from a pen many many years ago,,, many are crossbread with domestics now that they have some white or red on them,,,,

I see....you were on state land.

It was the same here in FL on state land for a few years.... 2 daily bag limit 12 inches at the shoulder, no dogs....well that didn't work so now there is no daily bag limit no size limit and you can hunt with dogs. I suspect NC will probably do that to in the future.

good hunting!!
