. Firstly not my pig but shot by a friend last night in my concession and I am putting it on here as it is an interesting one. A sounder of 8-10 pigs came over the border from Holland to Germany ( literally part of the concession borders Holland!) at 22.00 hrs heading into our wheat fields. Colleague dropped this sow with his Blaser R8 in .243. A 55 kg old old girl with worn down tusks. We helped him load the pig and when he hung her up back at the farmhouse he spotted the tag in her ear. We had one of these before and called that one in. A research centre reviewing European boar movements and reviewing African Swine Fever in Europe. Will be interesting to see what age this sow is and where she was tagged. Big old girl! And one thing is for sure - she ain't getting any older nor bigger now! Cheers . "Up the ladders and down the snakes!"

Lots of banded birds here in the States but I've never killed one. An old pilot, not a bold pilot, aka "the pig murdering fool"

Charlie: Are they wild and tagged or some farmers hogs got loose? Looks nice and healthy. Should make some good eats. George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" LM: NRA, DAV, George L. Dwight

Yes, could be interesting to find out how far she's roamed and for how long. I hunted ducks and geese for many years without shooting a tagged bird. Then one day, three of us hunting out of a duck blind shot five geese, four of which were tagged. I registered my tag online and waited to find out from what distant shores the goose had migrated ... in two years it had traveled 14 miles/22 km! Hannay: Bet it just happened to get caught on the return trip. Howdy Charlie: Sure enjoyed my August few days of wandering around Holland, wanted to see the tulips. Got to a field while they were topping them with a two man pulled mower and piling the blooms up. "make's better bulbs for the Americans". Cheers, stay healthy over there. Weather should be warming up nicely by now. George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" LM: NRA, DAV, George L. Dwight

Charlies answer might differ. We were told about this in Rheinland Pfalz a couple of years ago. The Pfalizish State Government or Federal Deutche Gov is trying to figure out the multitude of swine diseases going on in Europe in regards to schweinepest (classical hog fever or hog cholera), and in the case of Rheinland Pfalz radiation contamination. The data helps them map the outlier areas for the disease and the radiation contamination. Two winters ago ( 1999-2000), they had a big study going on. Wild swine were worth pennies on the euro to the butcher because of the testing required for disease and radiation contamination. I don't remember the price of testing in Rheinland Pfalz, but I want to say it was about 30-40 euros per pig, and REQUIRED! if you want to sell the pig to a butcher. On state forest, I believe it was required for all swine shot. Charlie lives a lot farther North than I did, so this may not be his situation.

We had 'em at Graf, at the water point I ran. Am sure other places. I never saw one ever in Germany. Tracks everyday though. Bunch of us country boys pooled some $ and bought 20lbs of pig nuts and had a big beer and oyster feast. Just bought 'em in Oppenheim at the butcher shop. He was tickled to sell 'em. Had to order more than he had. One of the sgts with a car went in and picked them up the next day. Hell of a party too! George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Graf, Hohenfels and Vilseck are nice places. If I ever get back to Germany I hope to get one of those jobs. Garmisch would be a dream, but it kind of has shit weather. Always socked in.

Lot colder and deeper snow down there too. Closer to Innsbruck and Absam. Had a g/f there once. Lovely lass, asked if she'd like to come home with me. "NEVER, wouldn't want to live with so many crazy Americans". Hell of a deal! Hey, look where those $2500-3000 scopes are made! George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" The Austrian side of the mountain is heaven on Earth. We visited the Swarovski museum on my birthday. There were several women working there I would have immigrated for. High maintenance looking platinum blonds. Only place I have seen better looking women than Austria was Eastern Europe and Norway.

Ha, the one I knew in Absam was a natural blonde. Lovely area, only had a short time though. Way back in '72. George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" LM: NRA, DAV, George L. Dwight
