He is the fattest wild hog I've ever seen. I can't tell if he is a barrow or if he's just a boar with smaller testicles than normal.

I think he would make a nice wall mount for someone, but I've got a nice boar on the wall and no more space--plus I've had to almost completely eliminated meat from my diet. Trying to find some young man who wants to hunt him.

There are numerous feral hogs about 2 miles up the creek from my place, but only rarely do they pass through here. This is the first hog to take up residence here in the 13 years I've been here.

I call him Ferrel, the feral hog. He's as skittish as every other wild hog.

I just ordered a hanging weight scale that will go to 500 pounds, I'm guessing his live weight at about 360.

Whoops!! He showed up before dark. 300 BLK 130 gr TSX 130 yards--DRT.. Especially sweet since rifle was a retirement gift from EMS board.

And he was a boar, but his testicles were only each about the size of his kidneys. No taint that I could smell. Think he will make good sausage.

Well done! I hope you had plenty of help loading/butchering that brute.

Yes.. I field dressed him and my good bud from down the road a piece came up and we winched onto a trailer and took him a couple of miles to a cooler at the abattoir.

AND the weight???

Well he will not be chasing off the deer.

I too would like to know if you weighed him.

I did not get him weighed. Loaded him on a trailer using ATV winch, and 2 of us were just able to drag him off the trailer down to the cooler's floor. I'm guessing max of 250 field dressed.

Both his tusk development and the size of his testicles were much less than I would expect on a hog this size.

I was wondering what to do with the gut pile beside the driveway, but some "neighbors" fixed the problem and are now sunning themselves.

Always nice to have a cleanup crew come in.

I was forced to shut down in 2014.
Have been back since on a recreational hunt for myself, and to visit with my people but from a commercial perspective the choppers saw an end to the safaris.

Paul, I never much cared for "mountain oysters" although I've had a few. Can't remember if we tried them at your camp or not.

Those buzzards are the type we call "turkey buzzards" in the States. They have a red head and are strict carrion eaters. We also have some relatively new-comer-buzzards from south of the US border that are called black headed buzzards. They are maybe a tad smaller than turkey buzzards but they are real bastards--they will converge on a cow having a calf and peck out the calf's eyes and umbilicus as soon as it is born. They unfortunately have the protection of the state.

IF you don't like 'em, they're likely not fixed right.

I was raised on 'em. Evertime we branded and cut calves we had 'em at home.

I do remember getting several servings from a huge skillet of fried calves' oysters on a ranch down in Argentina while hunting with Juan Pozzi. The "oysters" from calves is a whole lot better than those from a bull or a big buck.

Where I grew up, we clamped, rather than cut, the calves. Our area had just gotten over a screw-worm scourge, but we stayed cautious.

I have no reason to doubt anyone's assessment of the culinary delight provided by "mountain oytsters" but I distinctly remember having the option, that night, of freshly caught coastal mud crabs or bull's balls !!!!

Not sure we made the right choice !
