I posted this in the knife forum but have not got any responce.

I bought a Cold Steel Laredo Bowie at the GUN Show last weekend for half of retail price. I have no real need for it but it looked so cool it seemed to be calling my name. I also thought it might make a good pig sticker if I ever get to go.

What you all think about this knife?

More of a short sword Wink

For a factory knife it is pretty damn good. The handle is great but I dislike the guard. If it were mine I would cut off and file down the guard at the back of the blade so my thumb could rest on top for a fencing hold. I have done this to one of my knives and I liked it better. But to each his own.

interesting knife, but for that price "faux cocobola" isn't a selling point for me.. checkered kydrex would be alot better...

other than that, i am a sucker for coffin handles.. and if it had a metal coffin pommel, it would be balanced at the hilt...

perhaps boomie is right, the top could be smaller.. should have 1.5" of serrations and filework for the thumb...

in other words, that looks like a great starting point, but shouldn't be anything like that price, as it's, to me, a 95% finished blade, not a knife..

now, the chubby dude, who's been studying bowies for "20 years now" and is SPASTIC.. i don't know who he is, but he was more comic than informative.. he sure can hack the crap out of stiff cardboard
