I had been wanting to take my kids on a hog hunt after reporting last Spring on our successful Spring Bear hunt in Idaho http://forums.accuratereloadin...591036011#2591036011. I had read Texas Bob's post on THC and thought I would contact them and give them a try. My two boys (15 & 13)and I just got back to Pennsylvania from the 2 evening hunt last night and what an incredible experience it was - beyond my greatest expectations. Jed & Clark are 2 of the finest people and professional guides that I have ever met. Setting up the hunt with them was painless and all happened according to plan. We flew into IAH (George Bush International) and rented a car driving the 85 miles NW to Madisonville in 1.5 hrs. There we got a motel and were met by our 2 guides at around 7PM. We followed them out to a ranch which offered us thousands of acres to hunt on. They gave the boys a quick course in how to use the Night Vision and Thermal Imaging Goggles and Scopes and reviewed gun safety with them which was their prime concern. The weapons used by my boys were: AR15 .223 with Suppressor and Night Vision Scope & AR10 .308 with Suppressor and Night Vision Scope. Thermal Imaging Scoped Rifles were also available. These rifles and scopes were of course provided by the guides. We got aboard their large Ranger and headed off driving the back-roads and checking out all the fields. The kids and I were dumb-founded by the brilliance of the view through our NV Goggles in the dead of night. It looked like a light-greenish snow scene with clarity out to 1000+ yards. The Thermal Imaging scopes showed bright white animal images on black background which made the location of tons of deer and hogs available also out to 1000+ yds. An otherwise invisible laser beam pinpointed out their whereabouts to us. Once the images where verified to be hogs and not cattle or deer we planned the stalk and the fun began. We disembarked from the vehicle, checked the wind and made our approach. Sometimes starting out at 200 - 300 yards away we got to within 75 yards. The boys were then positioned with mono-pod shooting sticks and the count-down began - 3, 2, 1, SHOOT. From that point on it was pandamonium - like a police raid on an Asian Massage Parlor. The hogs started running in all directions squealing like hell. With the suppressors on the rifles the gun-shots sounded like .22LR and since we did not need to wear any hearing protection you could hear the dull hollow WOOMPH as the bullets hit their mark. My boys who have been shooting since they were 3 were rolling hogs on the dead run out to 150 yards. It was incredible seeing them make these shots on running game in the dead of night with strange black rifles with strange scopes from a standing position using only mono-pods. Gunshot-WHOOMPH-Squeal and down they went. It was easy to find the dead hogs with the Thermal Imaging Scopes and these were collected and piled up for photos. On the first night the boys killed 13 hogs and on the second night they killed 12 for a total of 25 hogs in 2 evenings. It was the most thrilling adventure the boys had been on to date. Our guides Jed and Clark while not pretty to look at are expert, hard-working, honest and extremely professional knowledgeable men. Their personalities and sense of humor made for a wonderful, successful experience which we plan on repeating soon. These guys run a first-class operation and work hard to make it happen for you. Hi Bob: Clark told me you were coming back down. Thanks for the recommendation. These guys are great. They could not believe how well my two boys were shooting. They said "Don't ever bring them back again - you guys are going to ruin our business by shooting all the hogs!!" Thanks to everyone who offered congratulations. ********************** > I'd rather be a CONSERVATIVE NUTJOB than a Liberal with no NUTS & No JOB >

Looks like the gene-pool for the hogs is consistent for black hair and up-right ears. That had to be a fun hunt. Steve "He wins the most, who honour saves. Success is not the test." Interesting point - I hadn't noticed that about the ears until I read your post. Other hogs I had killed with bow or pistol in Central Florida years ago I believe had the floppy ears down. ********************** > I'd rather be a CONSERVATIVE NUTJOB than a Liberal with no NUTS & No JOB >
