I don't know how many people watch his show, but last night he was in Namibia and was eating with the Himba of northern Namabia. At one point he stalked a Blue Wildebeest and he said it was tough going carrying a 20 lb rifle. Having been to northern Namabia and seeing the Himba I found program very interesting. For those not fimilar with Andrew he travels the world eating what many would consider strange foods.

Good Show, I always enjoy his show and I caught the remark about the 20pd rifle as well. You stood out with that shirt he had on as well. I think it was great that he hunted. Like he said get close to your source of food.

I really enjoy his travels/show and I was very interested to see his trip to Namibia and the visit with the Himba since I had done that fairly recently. Good show.

This is the same fool that fed the Hyena with food hanging from his mouth in Ethiopia. The black guide that was showing him how to do it was killed by hyena later on. I find his show quite interesting and entertaining to watch as he eats things that normal human beings wouldn't touch, but some of his antics can be off the board. If you watch Anthony Bourdain much on "No Reservations", he makes fun of A.Z. all of the time! Now that's the food show to watch!

"he eats things that NORMAL human beings wouldn't touch". OH I know I am many things to some here but this is the first time I have been called not normal. What is the proper discription of the people he breaks bread with? Is the tracker that finds that animial you wounded with a poor shot not normal because he may eat stuffed stomach or intestine. He may enjoy Mopone worms. It seems to me that maybe you are the NN person with your pickey eating ways.

I find it funny that with all the weird stuff Andrew eats, he can't stand durian. I LOVE durian.

as soon as he sat behind that gun, i wanted to urge him not to shoot! the cut from the scope wasn't TOO bad, considering he had his face right against it before the shot! NRA Life Member Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.

Not to mention the smell of it! That is some foul, repugnant stuff! Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

I have heard of the legend of foul smelling durian and have a hard time understanding it. My wife who is offended by relatively minor olfactory insults and who can smell cricket flatus at several hundred yards has never been offended by the durian I've brought home and kept in her refrigerator. She doesn't like eating durian, however; something about the appearance and texture.

On the other hand, did you ever see Bourdain's Namibia show? From what I understand, gnawing on the hindmost sphincter of a partially-singed warthog was the only thing, in all his travels, that ever put him in the hospital. His comments, voiced over the tape, are priceless.

Both of those fools have iron guts and some strange eating habits! And, Tony has an interesting mouth, for sure!

I believe the guy who fed Tony the Warthog's patootie was Arnold Hubner (sp?) who I believe was a PH for Volker Grellman...

I think Zimmern is a buffoon, Tony Bourdain is much more entertaining.

Grumulkin, did you somehow manage to get a hold of some of this? Chantaburi No. 1 All of the unprocessed durian I have seen and smelled has been pretty rank! Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durian The name durian comes from the Malay word duri (thorn) together with the suffix -an (for building a noun in Malay).[6][7] D. zibethinus is the only species commercially cultivated on a large scale and available outside of its native region. Since this species is open-pollinated, it shows considerable diversity in fruit colour and odour, size of flesh and seed, and tree phenology. In the species name, zibethinus refers to the Indian civet, Viverra zibetha. There is disagreement regarding whether this name, bestowed by Linnaeus, refers to civets being so fond of the durian that the fruit was used as bait to entrap them, or to the durian smelling like the civet.[8] “ ... its odor is best described as pig-shit, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock. It can be smelled from yards away. Despite its great local popularity, the raw fruit is forbidden from some establishments such as hotels, subways and airports, including public transportation in Southeast Asia.[27] ” Other comparisons have been made with the civet, sewage, stale vomit, skunk spray and used surgical swabs.[28] The wide range of descriptions for the odour of durian may have a great deal to do with the variability of durian odour itself. Durians from different species or clones can have significantly different aromas; for example, red durian (D. dulcis) has a deep caramel flavour with a turpentine odour while red-fleshed durian (D. graveolens) emits a fragrance of roasted almonds.[29] Among the varieties of D. zibethinus, Thai varieties are sweeter in flavour and less odourous than Malay ones.[4] The degree of ripeness has an effect on the flavour as well.[4] Three scientific analyses of the composition of durian aroma—from 1972, 1980, and 1995—each found a mix of volatile compounds including esters, ketones, and different sulphur compounds, with no agreement on which may be primarily responsible for the distinctive odour.[4] This strong odour can be detected half a mile away by animals, thus luring them. In addition, the fruit is extremely appetising to a variety of animals, including squirrels, mouse deer, pigs, orangutan, elephants, and even carnivorous tigers. This is a photo of a durian that has been cut in half. The fruit is about the size of a large cantelope and is covered with spines. On the inside is the fruit which looks like white fat in the center of which is a fairly large brown seed. I don't know what variety of durian I got but it tasted very good and didn't smell bad. Some was purchased at Jungle Jim's in Cincinnati, OH and some at a small Asian grocery store in Columbus, OH. Which reminds me; I need to get more.
