OK< after 3 months of waiting and 12 phone calls the last 3 days, I still can not seem to get a human to answer phone or call me back.

Why I have not received my permit for a leopard killed in 2012 I do not know and can not seem to find out. Can anyone offer me some advice or help?? It is frustrating for sure/// KD

Sent my paperwork and check in on June 13th this year. Didn't see the permit until the last week of Aug. I didn't get my cat, and had completely forgotten about it by the time it arrived.

Hope you guys get them back shortly.

Amazing to hear all these horror stories from USF&W!

Here we walk into the department, fill up all the required forms, and walk out with the permit in our hands!

Actually it got nothing to do with that.

We have very strict rules for government departments.

They HAVE to do their jobs on time and be nice about it.

There are notices at every counter stating that if you have any problem, you can go right ahead and see the top gut right there and then.

Government departments are very efficient here.

I certainly hope you are correct and that the airport police are one of the uber efficient ones come next March. I'm still a bit nervous about the 5 day stopover with firearms. Yes I know the regs, yes I know what paperwork and where to send it, and yes I've done my homework already emailing with the parties involved.

Bottomline, I'm still nervous.

Not having a pop at anyone at all but as we know, F&WS are an awkward bunch of anti hunting so and so's and it could be they're going slower simply because they ask the hunter to get the import permit before the hunt rather than after and the reason for that could well be because if done after the hunt, it might make life more difficult for them to balance number of licences against quota.

See bottom of the document (middle column) on the link below where it says:

"What do I need to do before I leave?
■■ Obtain an import permit from this
office (except for elephants hunted
in Namibia and South Africa). You
may want to take a copy of your
permit when you leave on safari as
some outfitters require a client to
show that an import permit has been
issued before scheduling the hunt. "

Wish you all the best of luck with getting your permits.

And, I had a CITES permit before I hunted the leopard, but it expired before I could get the animal out of Africa, and so now I am having all this fun and extra expense trying to get another one. again, you can not make this stuff up.

If you already have one but it's expired, I think you can just have it renewed which might be faster than applying for a new one.

About the only thing you can guarantee about F&WS is they'll make what should be easy, bloody difficult! Roll Eyes

Ok, this is officially day 10 of the great CITES search, I did get to talk to a human today and got promised that it would be checked on, that is the 4th time I have heard that. I really do not think anyone there is accountable, or maybe I just had a bad run of luck trying to find someone for 10 days, still do not have a clue what to do or what will work....KD

Contact the office of your U.S. Senator or Congressman.
You'd be surprised how fast things can happen when they get involved.

I guess I am ignorant to this.
I went on a hunt in July.
My wife shot a caracal.
the PH filled out the cites after the fact.
was there something I was supposed to do before we
went hunting??

Caracal fall into a different category and only need an export licence (rather than an import licence) so you're fine.

Leopard and elephant from some countries also need an import licence and of you look at the (UDF&WS) link I posted, you'll see it says the hunter should get the import licence before he (or she) goes on the hunt.

Good Idea to wait until after the hunt to make sure that the EXACT information on your import permit matched what is on the TR2

Certainly a lot more convenient to do it that way but if you read the link below and that I posted previously, it says to do it before the hunt and the main reason for that (as far as the interests of the hunter is concerned) is that if you wait until afterwards, the rules might change between your shooting the animal and getting the import licence and if that rule change is (for example) an import ban........ you're buggered.

See bottom of the document (middle column) on the link below where it says:

It must be pretty rare for people to be caught out by rule changes but it must be infuriating if/when it does happen. Wink
