kldTrouble with CITES permits??
OK< after 3 months of waiting and 12 phone calls the last 3 days, I still can not seem to get a human to answer phone or call me back.
Why I have not received my permit for a leopard killed in 2012 I do not know and can not seem to find out. Can anyone offer me some advice or help?? It is frustrating for sure/// KD

Actually it got nothing to do with that.
We have very strict rules for government departments.
They HAVE to do their jobs on time and be nice about it.
There are notices at every counter stating that if you have any problem, you can go right ahead and see the top gut right there and then.
Government departments are very efficient here.

I certainly hope you are correct and that the airport police are one of the uber efficient ones come next March. I'm still a bit nervous about the 5 day stopover with firearms. Yes I know the regs, yes I know what paperwork and where to send it, and yes I've done my homework already emailing with the parties involved.
Bottomline, I'm still nervous.

shakariNot having a pop at anyone at all but as we know, F&WS are an awkward bunch of anti hunting so and so's and it could be they're going slower simply because they ask the hunter to get the import permit before the hunt rather than after and the reason for that could well be because if done after the hunt, it might make life more difficult for them to balance number of licences against quota.
See bottom of the document (middle column) on the link below where it says:
"What do I need to do before I leave? ■■ Obtain an import permit from this
office (except for elephants hunted
in Namibia and South Africa). You
may want to take a copy of your
permit when you leave on safari as
some outfitters require a client to
show that an import permit has been
issued before scheduling the hunt. "
http://www.fws.gov/internation...nted-trophy-2013.pdfWish you all the best of luck with getting your permits.

kldThanks all, I finally got an email answered by a live (I think) human, so that is a proper step, now waiting to see some more...you can not make this stuff up. and thanks to Kathi..KD
25 September 2014, 22:04
kldAnd, I had a CITES permit before I hunted the leopard, but it expired before I could get the animal out of Africa, and so now I am having all this fun and extra expense trying to get another one. again, you can not make this stuff up.

If you already have one but it's expired, I think you can just have it renewed which might be faster than applying for a new one.
About the only thing you can guarantee about F&WS is they'll make what should be easy, bloody difficult!

29 September 2014, 22:53
JTEXI dunno about all that........ I just got mine back Saturday after about 4 weeks. Stay after kld I am sure it'll work out.
.
02 October 2014, 00:03
kldOk, this is officially day 10 of the great CITES search, I did get to talk to a human today and got promised that it would be checked on, that is the 4th time I have heard that. I really do not think anyone there is accountable, or maybe I just had a bad run of luck trying to find someone for 10 days, still do not have a clue what to do or what will work....KD

shotgun46Just spoke to a person at USFWs on my Leopard permit got a acknowledgement email on 22 Aug said that it had just been assigned and will take 60 to 90 days to process so about 100 to 130 days from the time you send it in
26 October 2014, 04:47
The BLBUSFW notified me via email on 10/6 that they received my leopard import application. 6 business days later, the permit was issued.

RphguyI guess I am ignorant to this.
I went on a hunt in July.
My wife shot a caracal.
the PH filled out the cites after the fact.
was there something I was supposed to do before we
went hunting??

Caracal fall into a different category and only need an export licence (rather than an import licence) so you're fine.
Leopard and elephant from some countries also need an import licence and of you look at the (UDF&WS) link I posted, you'll see it says the hunter should get the import licence before he (or she) goes on the hunt.
26 October 2014, 23:51
shotgun46Good Idea to wait until after the hunt to make sure that the EXACT information on your import permit matched what is on the TR2

Certainly a lot more convenient to do it that way but if you read the link below and that I posted previously, it says to do it before the hunt and the main reason for that (as far as the interests of the hunter is concerned) is that if you wait until afterwards, the rules might change between your shooting the animal and getting the import licence and if that rule change is (for example) an import ban........ you're buggered.

shotgun46Shakari
Thanks for the information I got my Leopard on 1 Aug applied on 15 August got email conformation on 22 Aug talked to staffer on 1 October that it had just been assigned to her. I hope to to get USFWS permit early next month before any rule changes
27 October 2014, 01:11
shakariIt must be pretty rare for people to be caught out by rule changes but it must be infuriating if/when it does happen.

27 October 2014, 04:08
shotgun46Yes it is. I am glad I got my elephant in 2010 and am not caught up in the importation ban that came as a surprised to every one this year out of the blue
27 October 2014, 18:20
tendramsHad a CITES import and export to get a cat into Canada recently. NO problems at all. USFWS is the culprit here...as per usual.
27 October 2014, 22:21
The BLBShot,
Email received 10/6; permit issued 10/15 (6 business days later), mailed on the 17th and received on the 24th.
