Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is 3.30 in the afternoon here. We have just got back to the camp from hunting.

We left Dubai yesterday morning. The flight on Emirates was great, as usual with them. Even the captain came back to chat with us on the flight.

We were met at the airport by Donald, Bundu Safaris representative, who whisked us through immigration and customs in record time. Everything went like a charm, no hassles whatsoever.

We flew from dar Es Salam to Eficara, which took us about 1 hour. We then had to drive for about 3.30 hours to get to camp. We crossed the Kilimboro River on ferry. Got to our camp. And as usual, the camp facilities put all 5-star hotels to shame.

We sighted our rifles this morning and went out hunting.

We took up the track of a herd of buffalo, and followed them for 2 hours. Sometimes in very thick bush, and sometimes in open areas, as well as very high and thick grass.

We caught up with them about 2 hours later, and we played a sort of hide and seek game. They were never more than abou 200 yards from us. Sometimes as close as 20 yards!

We continued this for about an hour, when we scared them off and they ran into an open area. One bull was leading them, and as he took off, I took the opportunity of putting a bullet into him. He dropped in his tracks. We tried to get another one, but, the grass was just too high to see them.

We walked up to our downed bull, and put a couple more bullets into his chest as he was lying down. Just to make sure he stays down, and to collect more bullets.

This was teh first animal shot with our new design Walterhog bullets.
The first one went right through both shoulders, the other two we are hoping to recover.

Dwight and Todd are still out hunting, and I will let you all know how they fared.

We saw about 300 buffalos today, as well as two herds of wildebeast, as well as several warthogs.

Very little tsetse flies, and no mosquitoes yet. The weather is just great. Some clouds during the day, and last night was cool. I slept with just a sheet as cover. Hyenas were all over the camp, and we had both leopard and lion hitting baits put up earlier.

We are going to replinish them today, and hope to get lucky with one or both cats.

Hi Saeed,

Glad to hear you are enjoying the hunt!

Is this a concession owned by the Vincents, or do they work for Bundu Safaris?

Here we go again!

Saeed, please slow down (it seems you are on a personal “vendetta†against those poor buffalos!), otherwise the 2005 DVD will be nothing but a re-run of the 2004 DVD! sleep

This year you have to allow Walter the chance to shoot a buffalo! Big as they are he won’t miss (the buffalo, not the buffalo vitals!), and then you can track the wounded buffalo into the high grass, thus giving all of us the chance to watch a more thrilling footage! clap

I love this up-to-the-minute reporting. Now if we could only start a live feed so we could watch right from home. Ah well who could ever be satisfied when it is African adventure.
I look forward to the next installment.

Saeed, how about a live satellite/internet feed from your video guy? We can follow along with every detail of your safari in real time. The technology is available and you're just the man to pull it off. That way I can get absolutely no work done for the next couple of weeks.

It looks like you're off to a great start. Thanks for the updates. This is going to be fun.

Nice way to start the safari!

500

Tanzania Bundu safaris acquired Mahenge North at the same time they picked up Lobo and Lokisale.

Saeeds safari was arranged by the Vincents as sub contractors through the old owners of Bundu and Adam is honoring that safari per the takeover contract.

Starting next year only Bundu PH's will be conducting safaris in any of the Bundu areas.

Regards,

Mark

P.S.: Will Alan Vincent be filming the whole safari as he did last year?

Saeed, has loads (literally dozens) of pictures that look very similar to that one. He hunts with pretty much the same crew each year (plus or minus a character or two) and after about a dozen or so adventures in Zim, RSA and Tanz, they have tipped over about 120 to 150 buffalo between them.

You can see how the trophy photo's might start to look the same. Smiler

But we will never tire of them! And this live -feed pleases us Africa junkies even more!

Cheers,
Canuck

We are up at 5, as Walter had a some sort bugle that was supposed to sound like a elephnat!
It was a miserable failure, as every one they knew it was him - despite all his protestations.
In fact he was the first one at the breakfast table! Which was a shock to everyone.

We left camp at 6, and half an hour later we found some buffalo tracks. We left walter with the truck, and followed the buffalo.
Another half an hour, and we found them feeding in a valley. They were spread over a large area. They were about 200 altogether, with some decent bulls.
They fed into some thickly covered hills, with very thick bush and very long grass.
We played hide and seek with them for about 3 hours. At one stage we climbed a termite hill about two storeys high.
But, we could not see the buffalo 30 yards ahead of us!

We left them, and went check our baits. We found the tracks of one young lion, and two lionesses, but no adult male.
We stopped to have lunch and rest for an hour or so, then headed out looking for whatever we might find.
Lots of game like zebra, waterbuck, hartbeast and warthogs. But, all the game seem to be scared of the trucks. A sure sign they have been shot
from the back of trucks!

We needed another leopard bait, so I shot a warthog, and we hung it up, and headed back to camp.
Arriving 13 hours after we left this morning, after another great day in the African bush!

This is teh hartbeast Todd shot yesterday, as you can see him with his PH Jonathan taylor.
