Yep I know, he doesn't post here and is probably wise for staying away. However, after all the negatives on hunting shows in threads these days I thought I would point out a series and a gentleman who seems to get it. His Nepal series on the Professionals was the finest outdoor programming I have seen. This week's episode of Hunting Adventures had Jim in the Congo hunting bongo. The bongo footage was nothing short of amazing but the best clip in the show was of a silverback gorilla guarding the road while the females and young crossed... simply incredible footage. In the hours of piss poor programming of some idiot hunting another whitetail in the back forty with his mother's video cam or a bunch of grown men shooting each other with paintballs, this quality footage warms the cockles of my old hard heart. It's not that he is just good guy, he is true professional and way above most of the shows Everyone should be looking up to him and his work, period. I very rarely watch any of these shows but I have a few of Jim's and have enjoyed them. Very professional and intelligent. Liked the bongo show but he recently had a show made up of footage of his father hunting. I thought that show with highlights from his father was the most enjoyable hunting show ever. Jim | |||

I love watching he and Eva together. She looks like she would be a hoot to spend time with. Met the guy once in an airport when I was leaving for Africa and he was in the midst of a travel f-up trying to get home to Canada. Despite his travel issues, he was very friendly, and spent several minutes chatting with me. Good man. | |||

I agree with that and Mikes comments on his rifle choices as well. But I am sure he just uses what pays. Him and his crew are guys it looks like you could have fun sharing a camp with . Although I would also prefer to have his wife in camp too. To keep my wife company of course.  She adds some more smiles to the show. The episode a couple of weeks back on the best and worst with her in it in bits with Eva was a fun one. | |||

Yes Jim's shows are definitely among the handful of top hunting shows……… and there is only a handful. I don't get the outdoor channels but have seen a few of his in the last couple years when overnighting at a motel here and there. There is a lot of effort and planning put into his shows as is the case with Sports Afield. As was said by bwanamrm, when you see a program like Jim's after watching some garbage hunting show it is like a breath of fresh air. Some of them are so bad I have no idea how they manage to get the sponsor backing that they do. ______________________________________________ The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who are bereft of that gift. | |||

This is a good thread and right on the money! My favorite part about Jim's shows is the variety; he always has something new and interesting all around the world. I hope he and his staff keep up the good work! I hunt to live and live to hunt! | |||

You must not travel much...lol Jim is a great guy with a great product but he gets his share of criticism...mostly from those that have never met him or are just plain jealous. Pretty much the same as everyone in the public eye. | |||

Great post. I agree with everyone. I met him and his wife in Istanbul at a rug shop several years ago. He talked with us for 20 minutes and was very personable and genuinely wanted to hear about our MP hunt. Great guy. Doug | |||

I was fortunate enough to speak with him about Africa at the Cabelas grand opener in WPG. For all that he has accomplished he was still very much down to earth and a great hunter amongst us Canadians! He has been in my opinion a leader in his field of outdoor filming and now with his son editing, great things to come. I believe on the last episode of the professional he announced that due to the overwhelming success of his Nepal show, a new 1hour each 13 episodes called unchartered was born, a co production with Wild TV. Certainly more great shows to come and more amazing adventures to witness. | |||

I enjoy his shows. I particularly enjoyed his Father and Father in Law in the shows. Sadly both have recently passed away. I enjoyed seeing old friends hunt together and spend time with their families in the field. My Dad and I both thought we had more time together than we did. It made me realize what I missed. Bfly Work hard and be nice, you never have enough time or friends. | |||

hello, i maybe the only one not being blind ... i wished that Jim will defend more the gun owners of Canada as he did to support the US Ars owners hunters and shooters after the shooting that happens. and secondly i wished too that it will support more the local economy with his business in yukon. other than that is not a bad guy to share a campfire ... | |||

I hunted with Cam Greig's outfit in Cameroon. Jim had hunted with these guys the year before. I asked them what they thought of him and their reply was emphatic. "Jim Shookee? Oh yes, great hunter and great man. Shookee great, great man!" For them to speak of his with such reverence was all I need to hear. But then I hunted with an outfitter in California who specialized in tule elk. He also had nothing but good things to say about Jim. He said that Shockey has a great sense of humor and is a great guy to hunt with. Jason "You're not hard-core, unless you live hard-core." _______________________ Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt. Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure. -Jason Brown | |||

I have observed Shockey at the DSC show the last two years, & the way he greets the folks, & especially the kids, is really genuine & exceptional. He'll spend as much time with a kid as the kid wants. He must be a really great guy, & his wife & daughter also. All of the guides/outfitters with whom I have hunted say he is a stud when it comes to waiting it out, putting up with discomfort, etc. | |||

Will be more a matter of whether they can afford it or not. Canadian budgets are pretty slim compared to those south of the border. Hopefully we get to see it up here. | |||

Jim Sure seems like a class act and the genuine article. And of course the worst thing he could possibly do would be to start posting on AR. Tar and feathering hunting celebrities seems to be a favorite sport here on AR. | |||

I don't know Juan. They are on cable TV here . But maybe try his website . Whether they have them there to watch or even to sell I can't say . But overall his show is a good one about hunting and family and a real hunting show too. I bet you will enjoy it . Or you can play them in your lodge or estancia down there when the hunts are in . | |||
