Put a piece of duct tape across your floor plate if you can't control it any other way.

I emphatically repeat:
On a DGR, a hinged floor plate is much preferred over a "non-floor-drop"/blind magazine rifle.

Gorilla Tape works better than no "floor drop."

Weigh and chamber each round you are taking to Africa.
It's not where you want to find a round that is under-charged or totally without powder, or seated too long to chamber, and I have had both on supposed factory rounds I did not check. Luckily neither problem was discovered in a must-do situation.

Now now Rich, while the bolt can keep going "clacka-ching-clacka-Boom" for 4 or 5 times, after the double has gone Boom-Boom and the charging buff has gone boom-boom to you, then the double man must go click-ching-ching-chug-chug-click then maybe Boom-Boom again if you can get up from under the buff's feet. dancing

Eagle, it is abundantly clear that you have never gone up against a fellow who can handle a double rifle!

Exactly! Looks bad but works great. Note the 4-5-8 in my banner. Used it for years like that.

It was a recommendation to learn basic ballistics and gunsmithing by several members. The other day I pulled my trigger on my Model 700 .270 and tweaked it to a modest 2 lbs and some change. When time frees up I am hoping to make a trip to the local gunsmith and learn some of the basics and get an idea of how to true a gun. Alan Bunn recommended I start reloading, because .416 bullets are so expensive. I got a friend of mine to teach me the basics, but I'm going to have to invest in my own equipment if I am going to take it to the next level. I had a reload going that was shooting an inch group at 150 yards, which I was extremely pleased. However, he did not accurately record his loading, and the dies got changed. I on the hunt for the sinclair tool to adjust my overall length. Hopefully I can tweak these bullets down and get it all squared away.

Until then I will be shooting my fathers old 300 Savage. At 150 yards I managed to get a 2-2.5 group with winchester factory ammunition. Suprisingly, it has an old as dirt redfield 3x9x40 scope on it that holds true. I dont know if the scope has been changed since it was sighted in, but it was just as true as the last time the scope was sighted. Whitetail season comes in this up and coming saturday, so if I am unable to get my .270 win shooting like I desire, I will be shooting the Savage.

No offense to you or anyone else, but if you have adjusted the trigger on your Remington to two pounds, please read the Belk threads in the Gunsmithing section.

I was somewhat aware of the problems with Remington triggers. I have put this trigger through many tests and it passed. I would not go to Africa with a trigger lighter than three pounds, just as a personal preference. For the current shooting this gun receives, the light trigger helps me. I am improving my technique, by applying a constant pressure on the trigger until it fires. I am not squeezing the trigger anymore, rather applying a constant pressure between breaths.

I have also put it through the bolt slamming test, and by bumping the but end on the floor. The reason I will not put a timney trigger on this rifle, is that I hope to be able to invest in a .300 WSM.
