Black coffee in the morning beside the fire, plenty of water during the day, and cold Castle for the drive home. To finish the day, a single crown by the fire.

A couple of cold ones at the "bush TV" (Bon Fire) and then a Scotch on the rocks or Captain an coke depending on the mood.

If you've taken a Priority animal you might be doing a "WietmannsHeil" shot with some locally distilled moonshine tu2

Either way life's good.

P.S. We also have ice tea and coffee Wink

I prefer Irish but usually I have to settle for single malt. One before dinner, a touch of SA wine, mostly red, with dinner and perhaps another after dinner.

I'm not much of a drinker. I do however purchase a bottle or two of a good quality single malt in the duty free shop in J'burg to enjoy around the fire.

Drinking while on safari.

At the dinner table or camp fire i will have 1 maybe 2 drinks during an evening and usually drink something different every night.
Sometimes the fire pit has been first and then dinner. however i like to have dinner first and then sitting around the fire pit and have a glass of something and talking.

Usually at dinner a glass of Merlot will or has be served.

Beer: Best i have found is "Serengeti" I have not found it in the states.

Wine: Some South African Merlot have been very-good to excellent.

Other spirits: Mixed with the right amount of Ice and your choice of thinner. or just have it on the rocks.
Different camps and countries, the traditions have been different and when asked what to bring or purchase when we are leaving the airport, so i do not arrive in camp empty handed.
What i have encountered in the bush. This by no means is a completes the list as other spirits were observed. With one place having a full stocked bar to select from.
1. Brandy's
a. Christan Brothers
b. E & J
c. Others i never seen before
2. Rum"s
a. Bacardi
b. Captain Morgan
3. Vodka's
a. Seagram
b. Absolut
c. Grey Goose
d. Ketel One
e. Smirnoff
4. Whiskey's
A. Jim Beam
b. Jack Daniels
c. Chivas Regal
d. Canadian club
e. Crown Royal
5. Tequila

This year i will be taking a bottle of cookie dough vodka along plus a very nice bottle of Scottish whiskey. Last trip is it was brandy and tequila.

A wise man once said "You should never drink, unless you're alone or with somebody!" I have tried to hold true to that.

I'm partial to scotch/rocks, red wine, and G&Ts. If Schweppes would ever import DRY LEMON into the States, I might just become an alcoholic Smiler

Taffel, Castle, or Windhoek beers are nice after a long walk at the end of the day, but I'll settle for water at lunch if we're still gonna hunt in the afternoon.

Last season Charl convinced me that Red Heart makes a pretty decent rum and coke for sipping around the fire too.

Cold local beer.

Looks like gin and tonic is the drink of choice of african hunters. I may need to try one one of these days.

I'll drink about anything but my preference if they can get it is a little boubon or scotch on the rocks before dinner. Gin works nicely also.

I like wine with dinner and in southern Africa almost anything that's red will do as the wine cheap or not seems to be good.

I usually avoid drinking at lunch while on safari even if we are back at camp for lunch followed by a nap. On my last safari though I was introduced to a Shandy which is a full beer and a soft drink of your choice mixed together. It sounds terrible but it is quite refreshing when it is really hot and doesn't give me that loggy feeling that beer usually does.

here at home I'm pretty brand specific and tend to like the stuff I really can't afford but in Africa almost anything tastes fine. Bell's scotch is great, JD if it can be found and Gilbey's gin is delicious.

Bitter Lemon is what we had in Kenya, and what Spec's in Houston has had before. Same thing. (Good enough for me with nothing added...)

A cold African beer hits the spot after firearms are put away for me. I am also fond of G&T with plenty of limes around the campfire. If any of my future PHs are reading this, I too am partial to Bombay Sapphire!!

I'm fond of red wine. A South African Pinotage, one glass before dinner and one during, is about right for me.

I can't handle more alcohol that that if I want to answer the bell the next day.

What he said...

I drink tons of water as dehydration is a bitch. I enjoy a beer in the field and a glass or wine or two around the fire. Frankly, I drink a lot more at home than on the hunt.

Dan, given the company you run with a few nice bottles will last until day three of the safari!

Well a few don't seem to make it past the first night in the B&B. Strictly for jet lag remediation...

I don't drink booze, so for me, Diet Coke, Coke Light or Sparletta Green Creme Soda. And of course, good cold water. The PH saves a bundle on me relation to booze! And, I save on my safari by being able to get up and go every morning without a hangover or any other ill effects! LOL! Big Grin

Whatever is available.
Been known to drink water for whole week, because of heat.
Just depends, but try to avoid sodas...

There are certain aspects of african hunting that will always be lost on non-drinkers (and non-hunters!)

A cold beer after a long, hot day.

A fingers worth of Lagavulin while watching the campfire burn down.

Then again, I never turn up my nose at a cold SA Coke (made with sugar!)

Mike,

Cohiba Siglo 2
H Upman Magnum 46 or 50 (50 only if we bag a buff)
Partagas Torpedo

Sitting around the fire with a nice congac and stogie is fantastic.

A cold local lager after getting back and taking off the boots. Maybe another while showering/changing for dinner.

A gin and tonic or two when meeting up with everyone for dinner. Topping the list is Hendricks but Gordons will do. I am slut when it come to gin, not too picky!

Wine with dinner. Color will vary with what is on the menu. Usually a glass or two.

After dinner a single malt. Islay, Oban, Lagavulin... I guess I'm a slut when it comes to scotch too! With that a nice cigar.

Montecristo #2 is nice but Romeo Y Julieta and Punch are also quite nice and significantly cheaper. I like a Lonsdale size, not too dark.

If I'm not too tired, maybe another Gin and tonic before bed.

It sounds like a lot when you list it out but it's over the whole evening and there is food involved. Or I'm just a raging alcoholic?

I used to really get into cigars. And, still do enjoy a good one. That said...seems I fight allergic sinusitis all the time anymore and they seem to just throw gasoline on the fire.

For 20 years...a good dip of Copenhagen really did it for me...still crave one. But...all the cancer stuff (along with my disability and life insurance) has gotten me off of that as well. Seems a good cup of coffee in the morning and a little alcohol in the evening is all that is left of life's pleasures.

While I could take a swig if I was in a pinch...I have always likened drinking scotch to siphoning gasoline...I just spit out the gasoline though so I don't have to grit my teeth as long.

Definitely a cold beer after the long day. Then it all depends on how tired I am. May be try some of the South African wine - I always wondered how it tastes compared to our Kiwi wines.

With all that walking from what I hear, I'll probably have one stiff scotch and hit the sack.
