May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Hi Jeff, I dont think you will find the answer here your looking for my friend. I will say his clients sign a non compete contract which has some non disclosure verbiage as well. Says its for protection of his film rights. As such all you will hear is crickets on the internet from those in the know..

Sinner,

I found what I was looking for...Conversly, I have signed those NDAs myself on several occasions....I know the drill. That said, if something "really bad" had gone down an NDA does not guarantee silence in the event of some illicit activities / endangerment to said clients....NDAs have 2 sides to them as you are well aware.

Hope all is well bro, BTW.

So: it looks at if the End Times are here; just waiting for Shakari to summon the Four Horsemen. What was it Kurt Russell said in "Wyatt Earp": "you tell them I'm coming, and Hell's coming with me...".

So now we have some people I respect weighing in on MS, like a PH Assn, and accounts of wounded game left to die on more than one concession that MS hunted on. Add to that his videos for evidence. An unbiased person might be led to believe that MS has sold out on any personal or professional ethics for the almighty dollar.

Where are his legion (all three of you!) of rabid supporters now?

Circling the drain, along with MS.

Rich

I concur, anyone who compares Ivan Carter to MS should be horsewhipped.

No, no Idaho, you have erred in a big way my friend.....It was in 'Tombstone' that Kurt uttered those legendary words. Kevin Costner tried to play Kurt's role in 'Wyatt Earp'. Sorry, but I had to put the record straight - confusing those two movies is sacrilege! Smiler

Ok, here is my two cents worth. I have know Mark since 1983 he and I served on the board of the Phoenix chapter of SCI together and he was VP the year I served as President. Mark was always one of the first to give his time and efferts to help out. When he had his outfit in BC, I had several friends hunt with him and had great trips. When Mark opened his operation in Africa several of the people who hunted with him in BC headed to Africa. All of them without exception have had nothing but positive feedback to me. When my first wife died Mark tried to help me out of my depression and offered for me to come spend a summer with him in Africa. I regret not taking him up on his kind offer.
I have over the years met and had dinner with Mark and his family and consider him a gentleman in all matters. I personally know over a dozen people who have hunted and will hunt again with Mark. Do I believe or agree with everything Mark says in his movies or books, no. But then again I don't agree with every thing Craig Boddington, Andy Lightbody, Bob Robb, Tony Mandile, Bill Quimby, Pete Sheply or Chuck Adams write, all of whom I am aquainted with.
Frankly I'm tired of all the back stabbing and comments from people who have never met Mark and only come up with third party 'I heard from someone else BS'

I have talked to Mark on several different occasions...

I have also talked to Allen Day on several different occasions about his hunts with Mark.

Allen had nothing but grerat things to say about Mark.

With my personal conversations with him, I came away thinking that, here is a guy that is enthraled with African hunting. It has consumed him. It is his life.

This will be hard for many to under stand, but the Danger is what fuels him IMHO.

If you watch ALL of his videos, in the order that they were filmed, then you can see how his obsession grows...

He is driven to Danger, and the excitement of DG up close...

Again this is very hard for many to understand....

I do understand HIM... Do to my former JOB, where I made several hundred entries on dope warrants, barracaded persons, hostage situations, shotgun stakeouts, etc. I can see that for Him, and those like him, that have exerienced extreme danger, and LIKED it, crave it.

I do not expect most of you to understand "IT".

As most have not experienced "IT", and most that have do not wish to repeat it...

But to paraphrase Ernest Hemingway...

Those that have experienced EXTREME DANGER and LIKED IT, NEVER CARED FOR ANYTHING ELSE..."

The original quote is:

"Those that have hunted armed men, and liked it, never cared for anything else there after"...

Well I have done that for over 30 years.... and so I "understand Mark, and his quest"...

Those of you that do not have these experiences should not judge him...

There is a big difference between shooting cape buff and elephant at 50 yards and beyond vs 12 yards and closer...

Also you must understand some of the theatricts for the camera, to make the videos dynamic.

There is a little artistic license involved, for the camera.

Agreed, Kevin Costner's role as Wyatt Earp in the movie "Wyatt Earp" did not hold a candle to Kurt in "Tombstone". And no one can match Kilmer as Doc Holiday. But there are occasionally inaccurate statements made here on AR. Smiler

NE450 #2,

he should join the USMC and ask to go to Iraq or Afghanistan. He can have all of that adrenaline rush he wants against real competition.

On second thought, Nahhhh! He'd have so many bullet holes from "Friendly Fire" he'd leak like a sieve. His fellow soldiers wouldn't understand his rush to glory. It gets other people killed from time to time.

From many of the substantiated reports he doesn't follow up wounded DG 100% of the time.
That causes me to consider the fact, that like a lot of bullies he makes sure the edited footage only shows him in the "hero" format.

Spare me that part. If you read his book "Death and Double Rifles", he tells a few stories about people who botch their shots and even one client who wanted to sleep in the tent with him cause he was scared. No names mentioned, but if you carefully reread the book and watch some of the videos, you can pretty much figure out which clients he is talking about. Still, he has some very nice concessions, and hunts some good areas. If I got a free hunt with him, I would go. Wink

If my fellow AR members will take up a collection to cover all my costs I am willing to sacrifice and go hunting DG with Mark.

I will be happy to provide a complete unbiased account of all of our hunting. Smiler

Rich, I have talked to one other person that has hunted with Mark, and I have talked to him as well, and I do not get the impression that fear is any sort of a factor in Marks life when it comes to African DG.

You never really know, but my instinct tells me that Mark would run into a burning building to save people, and would not cower in the face of gunfire.... It is just a feeling I have, but I can say I have been around people that have done both, friends of mine, and dangerous animals seemed to scare them more than the above, baised on their viewing of my hunting videos, as well as some of them were with me when I shot the Gorilla...

Also it was common practice for Dope dealers to have BIG MEAN dogs in the Dope House, so when we made entry it would be dangerous for us...

Funny thing is, that scared some of my buddies more than people with guns....

Mark Sullivans "bravery" is not in question with me, but while there is a difference between dangerous animals and men with guns...
I would take a chance on Mark...

This thread is hanging on like Granny's tooth, not that that is a bad thing. Roll Eyes

If I remember correctly, the idea was to ferret out some poor misguided adventure seeker who had the misfortune to have hunted with that sadistic, narcisistic, egocentric wounder of great beasts.....what was his name.....oh yes, Marky Sullivan.

Now, 60 odd posts down the track we have got something that goes a bit like this....."I once knew a guy that used to live next door to a fellow that was married to the cousin of the man that used to cut Marky's hair when he was in 6th grade, which was a couple of years before he had an unnatural experience with the school priest,(not uncommon, I am told). This encounter, unfortunately, had a profound effect on his psyche and turned him into an animal hating monster. He started on this henous path of animal torture by pulling the legs off insects and gradually worked his way up through sundry neighbourhood pets, to shooting the balls off Cape Buffs and various other fearful creatures in the Dark Continent. Some would say he has come a long way.

Now, back to the point, who has hunted with him?????? bewildered

What did Mark Sullivan say to the big, bad buff?

The sideshow exists to buy time for the MS experienced clients to formulate their responses.
So, in a bid to buy time with regards to shirt pulling- once I saw/heard my PH get excited, it is the client's job to push into the proper shooting spot. . . I know Wemmer doesn't wait to be invited to shoot! First client to the feeding trough. I was amazed how many times 3-5 feet made for a clear(er) shot.

I really like the part where Holliday and Ringo exchange Latin phrases.

Doc "In vino veritas" - In wine is truth.

Ringo "Age quod agis" - Do what you do best.

Ringo (pats his gun) Eventus stultrum magister" - Events are the teachers of fools.

Doc "In pace requiescat." - Rest in peace.

Doc to Kate "Evidently Mr. Ringo's an educated man. Now I really hate him."

Appaloosa was good as recent western, however, Russel Crowe was fantastic as the role of "Ben Wade" in "3:10 to Yuma"! This was actually a remake of the 1950's film where Glenn Ford played Ben Wade. Wade referred to his gun as the "Hand of God", and the grip was inlaid with a gold Crucifix. Ben Wade claimed in the movie that he actually read the bible from cover to cover in 3 days at the age of 8. 3:10 to Yuma was actually filmed right outside of Santa Fe New Mexico. When I was out visiting the Plaza in Santa Fe last year, one of the local jewelers who has a shop there, was the one who was hired to cast the gold Crusifix for the gun stock. He was requested to make three sets for the movie.

I hunted with Him multiple times, one was even a "family safari", which included my 93 year old grandmother, and my 2 and 3 year old grand children. At all times He was a perfect gentleman and took time to see we all had a good time. Grandma even got to shoot an ardvark! So what's the problem? (I also booked a 3 week buffalo hunt with Him at the 2010 Safari Club International Convention).
Confused
