The young man is Reon von Tonden, PH/owner of African Barefoot Safaris. I'm the one with the beard.

The Kudu just made 54 inches on the longer horn.
We were tracking him when I shot the Caracal. A couple hours later we came up on him in a game trail crossing. I think he heard or scented us, as he turned a hundred-eighty degrees to face us. The rangefinder said 140 yards, and the shot was dead center in the brisket. He went down, jumped up and ran about ten feet headfirst into an 18" butt Marula tree. He went down there, and never moved again. I can understand why most plains game (and other) hunters consider the Kudu the most majestic and beautiful of the antelope. Sitting there posing for pictures, a strange sadness swept over me.

Rich

We celebrated him that evening with a Cohiba Siglo VI.

I like the close curl version of the Kudu trophy and hope to take one myself someday.

Why start a new thread for every animal that you killed? Why not just write up a hunt report? Maybe you could start new threads for each meal you had while there or each cigar you smoked too. Yeesh!

Nakihunter; it is a very nice Kudu, thank you.
The Caracal picture is in a separate thread.

Scotch Bonnet: ISS is Idaho Sharp Shooter. It's just easier to type Rich.

Robert Wilde: welcome to the forum. I did them that way because I can. We are free here, to do things pretty much the way we choose within the very basic guidelines. All of the cigars were Cuban, and the beverage of choice varied between Tanqueray and Amarula of an evening. If the way I do things offends your delicate sensibilities, you are certainly welcome to not view my posts in the future.

Sheesh...?

Careful there Robert, I see you're new around these here parts. For such a slight ISS may just threaten to rip out your still living guts and use them to grease the axles on his AARP approved tricycle and he'll do it with no more regard than he would have for squishing a bug on the sidewalk, so be careful, be very careful.

Truth be told, each Cuban Cigar deserves it's own story. From lit match and rotating the stogie to ensure an even burn, to the rich aroma and smoke rings, to that last draw...

Two of the great side stories of a good Safari, Cuban Cigars, along with the adult beverages chosen. We celebrate the animals taken during the day with the evening rituals.

Rich,

Congrats on the good hunt. Very nice animals - especially the kudu. And the caracal, wow, I've only seen one so far and never got a shot at it. Sorry you didn't get a zebra for your wife, but that waterbuck is a nice trophy. If your wife is anything like mine, she won't be happy until she has a zebra rug on the floor, so I guess another PG safari is guaranteed for you. Maybe that's why you came back without a zebra? If so, good strategy!

Nice Bull, did you get the cubans in transit? If so where, I'd like to pick some up on my next trip. For foreign consumption only, of course.
On one of my hunts, the hunters prior to us were a group of Russians who left some cubans behind. My huntin buddy is an ex marine aviator. As Chuck sat by the fire smoking he said:"for an old cold warrier, there is nothing like sitting around a campfire smoking a cuban that we just liberated from a bunch of Russians".

Hi Rich,

That is very harsh considering he is a new member?

You posted it that way as you desired maximum exposure, but do not chastise someone for pointing that simple fact out?

That would make me and Scotch Bonnet two that will not view your posts anymore?

Presume you are not American? Nor am I but note 505 I gave this man the opportunity to hunt for free because his name was Wardel not Wardell.
