One surprising feature was how rough a Cheetah's tongue is. They purr far louder than any house cat as well.

Damn that is a cool cat - I am not really into cats but I want a cheetah now.

Brad, When you're right, you're right!! Saeed's generosity continued when he booked us on a flight-see with Seawings.

He told us it was the best way to see the remarkable growth of Dubai and he was correct. If I have time later to process some of our endless pics from the air I will put up a couple. Until then visit the hyperlink provided of Seawings and enjoy the professionally taken aerial photos.

This was not our first time flying in a Cessna 208 (Caravan). We flew in them many times in our years in Bush Alaska. This was a first though in a 208 on floats.

This afternoon we enjoyed the most amazing brunch at the Al Qsar - Madinat Jumeriah.

We will bid farewell to Dubai in the morning and make our way on Emirates Air to Harare.

Buzz is aware, as we are, of the foolish decision by FWS to extend the Elephant import ban. The move will not change our motive nor the anticipated excitement of our first Elephant hunt. The potential tusks were merely trinkets.

Our experience will not be diminished by a decision beyond our immediate control.

Cheers
Jim & Joyce

When we lived on the Navajo Rez in the 80's and traveled to Monument Valley we saw the "mittens" for the first time yet felt like we had been there many times before. The scene is captured in many a Western.

We had the same feeling when visiting Saeed's home after seeing pictures on AR for the last 7 years.

May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

I just returned from Alaska yesterday and this morning I received a voicemail from Jim:

It's day 3--no ele yet, but lots of tracking.
On day 1 they had torrential rains which wiped out any spoor. Tracked, what turned out to be, young bulls on day 2 & 3.

Jim said it was "hot, hot, hot" and lush green, amazing change from what they are used to later in the year.

Joyce was stung by a wasp and they are keeping track of who gets the most hits by wasps. So far Joyce is winning!

I hope to hear more soon and will post ASAP!

Best to all, Darin

Having been in the jess in October, I can't imagine how tough it would be with everything green. To see an elephant in that stuff, one would have to be really close.

Talked with PH David Langerman, his mom Chooks is managing the camp where Jim and Joyce are hunting. Been very hot and torrential rains but Jim and Joyce continue to push along and have been excellent company to have in camp. One of the camps lost two Chalets that were washed away by the rains.
