Brooks was on safari for months in the Athi and Tana river areas and took a 140 per side bull. Hearing rumours about "a forgotten land" containing elephant "7 arms out" he put his guns aside and devoted the rest of his time to finding and photographing the biggest bull in Africa. He took the photo himself and swears the bull was 165 a side and was, "in my book the biggest bull left in Africa until some hunter shoots a better one". He refused to offer any specifics as to location, stating that he hoped no other hunter would ever lay eyes on it.

I can easily believe it. Those tusks are like mighty oaks. What a bull! The Tana River area produced some of the heaviest ivory ever taken, year after year after year. Thanks, Nick. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

My guess was also too low but these tusks certainly do appear to maintain their thickness for quite some distance before showing any sign of taper. and then what's in the head .. another 2.5 - 3 feet? A great bull, for sure.

Wow, that is a great bull and a great story behind it! It takes REAL appreciation for a guy not to want to hang those on his wall!
