Having just returned form an ele hunt and checking emails I thought I would let you know what we deal with- This is one of many!!!!

Buzz,

You are a coward. Why not stand in front of a buffalo or an elephant without your gun, big man?

You are selfish and out of touch with the disaster facing Africa and your business.
First, despite what you put on your pathetic website, hunting elephants is not "YOUR PRIVILEGE" Please change your business to PROMOTE ECO-TOURISM...Africa does not have enough elephants and wildlife to sustain your slaughter. Besides it is SO UNCOOL AND UNPOPULAR . You must have been that boy nobody liked in school. Now you know why you are disliked. Because you are despicable.

What does hunting elephants provide? To others you look like a sociopath. You are to be saved or shunned, healed or harmed, but not encouraged to kill defenseless animals, especially elephants.

Please help create an environmentally focused, self-sustaining enterprise business until the elephant and other critically endangered species no longer face extinction. Because an elephant is poached at 100 every day and they will not last long. You cannot afford to KILL ELEPHANTS...
Please help us save the elephant from extinction, not just because the elephant is a cornerstone species, whose loss will destroy the world’s second largest rainforest, but because elephants are one of the most amazing, advanced animals who deserve our protection.

Does it give you and your clients a false sense of superiority to shoot an elephant?
In fact, it is YOUR DUTY TO PROTECT AND NOT KILL ANIMALS. Full stop. You make a livelihood of decimating endangered animals and that makes you and yours evil and selfish.

I’m also filming a documentary entitled, Elephant DaZe for which I just traveled across Africa and the USA to interview top conservationists and grassroots activists. This Elephant DaZe film serves as an educational tool to galvanize humans to save the elephant and protect the planet’s vital but endangered biodiversity. I have just returned from filming in Central Africa where I met passionate people who fight poaching, promote sustainable African development and employ effective wildlife conservation programs. I also met poachers and corrupt government officials whose despicable behavior perpetuates murder and instability. I wish we had met. I would have left you with a lasting impression --and shown you how foolish and misguided a person you have become.

They did an article in my local newspaper thirty years ago about my first two safaris ... a few weeks later I got an unsigned hate letter from Saskatchewan .. at first glance from the envelope I thought it might be from a student who had moved there and was saying 'Hi!' ...

Then it started, ' Powell, you moron !' It had cut out my photo and put a bullet hole in the ol' fore head ... and the person continued beaking off ... finally ending up with, ' I pray that you are shot by one of your friends, die in an accident, or of cancer .. I pray every day and my prayers are usually answered !'

I must admit that I was startled but not overly concerned .. I thought back then that if God wanted to call me home he could do it at any time and not just to answer to the rantings of a wing nut ....

I am still around .. still going on safaris .. and I wouldn't be totally surprised if I have already outlived that nasty person who wanted me dead all those years ago ..

Cheers,

Scruffy

I have several video clips posted on You Tube. I am always amazed at some of the comments that get posted. The level of vitriol, hate and anger reflected in the comments is shocking. And we all need to remember that the people posting these comments are the caring, progressive, compassionate and socially literate segment of our population. Yea, right. Roll Eyes

I actually think these people do themselves more harm than good when they let their emotions take over their keyboards. It makes them much easier to dismiss as wackos and kooks. There is a lesson for us in their actions too. In making our arguments, we need to remain civil, focused on the facts and not be dismissive or condescending. We see the same thing on AR when some people respond to folks like jolouburn in an intemperate and condescending way. It makes us look the same way.

That's the best way of dealing with them. Period.

There's an outfit calling themselves "AFRICAN WILDLIFE DEFENSE FORCES" who are soliciting for candidates to join them in the fight for African wildlife facing the wrath of serious poaching.

In my curiosity I emailed them to see if my 30 odd years as a PH would be of any benefit to them. I got a reply, turning me down on the basis that I was deemed a "potential threat" because of my status as a Professional Hunter and Trophy hunter.

The antis are truly ignorant !!

Neil-PH, I also did not care what they think however when you got some of the emails and phone calls I did it will make you think twice, I honestly believe there are enough of these nut cases out there that will actually try some of these threads. They went as far as to call some of my clients that I listed as references and threatened them!! I had to remove all names of my website close down Facebook and all other social media advertising, so yes I did not care either but now they are hurting my business.

Buzz,

These people are everywhere and are searching the web for people to harass, I got this

"elephant.. and you call yourself a biologist? next time read before killing fragile species animals have feelings and they don't belong to you. http://newswatch.nationalgeogr...t-elephant-torn-ear/"

after I posted my hunt report http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/2171031491
from my visit to your outfit. I guess they rather find species extinct than legally hunted

Buzz, My company The Safari Connection gets constantly barraged with hate mails similar to the one you posted here. I have developed a response that has an immediate affect on the party that is doing the writing. I first try reason and tell them they should really look into the facts and not be governed by emotion fueled by the "Walt Disney" syndrome. If they persist ,one went as far as to find my 15 year old daughter on Twitter, I tell them that for interjecting their opinion into my life and for wasting my time that I will shoot an Ele for every email they send until they learn manners and respect for others and others opinions. I then send them a pic of me with an dead Ele and tell them it is THIER Elephant and that if they had not harassed me by interjecting their opinion into my life it would still be alive!! Almost all of them give up after one or 2 emails!! I once went as far as to make a woman apologize before I would stop shooting Ele's in her honor!! ALL was BS but these people don't understand reason or conservation. PS--I Am one of SCI's "40" suing USFWS for their criminal ban on Ele imports, USFWS might as well just call themselves the Humane Society of America and come out of the closet!!

I can agree to differ with people who don't support hunting but the quality of the insults levelled against Buzz is unacceptable in a civilised level of communication.

I find it curious that she doesn't comment on the DAPU page on your website and the collection of disturbing images housed there and what DAPU is achieving!? I get the distinct impression that she did visit the page with her quote of "YOUR PRIVILEGE"

Fact of the matter is this woman's grasp of reality is probably clouded in a world of fantasy and emotion.
No amount of observation, factual learning and discussion will change her perception of reality or her self righteousness in condemning the actions of the reasonable. This puts the onus on us as hunters to act and respond in a reasonable and civilised manner to such insults and all matters and acts related to hunting, despite the low level of intellectual ability displayed by the opposition.

To quote a remark at a party last night: If the impala get the vote today, the lions will be grazing tomorrow.

Buzz, welcome to the party bro!!! Smiler

Nimwits and their uneducated opinions, never cease to amaze me!!! Heck, I got over 100 nasty/threatening FB messages in 1 week because of my lion hunting habits.

Now, "Tanzanians for Wildlife" - whomever these goofballs are, have been sending me threatening messages in the past 2 days. They plan to meet me upon my arrival in Tanzania in August, and take care of me for good. I guess they are none to pleased about my plans for a 14th lion! Cool

If this crap wasn't so serious, it would be comical!!!

This is what happens when a persons total knowledge of wildlife comes from the Disney Channel. I personally have never had any animals talk to me when I was out in the bush, nor have I encountered any with names, children etc. We have to put up with this ignorance in the States as well Buzz. I always like pointing out to these folks that they are wearing leather shoes, belts etc., and I love asking them about from where they came. Their standard answer is "well, I don't like to think about that". I wish for the wildlife's sake, they would become better informed with facts as opposed to emotion and "think about that" for a change!

We also get our fair share of such drivel and these occasionally increase in numbers when we get targeted by anti hunting farcebook groups etc........ interestingly, they always view our website and those visits obviously increase our visitor numbers and of course search engine ratings so in some ways, they're actually helping us. animal

On the subject of the emails etc themselves. Those that threaten violence or death etc are promptly forwarded to the authorities in their country of origin (because such threats are illegal) AND their ISP, those that are simply abusive are forwarded to their ISP (because such messages are usually against their terms & conditions) ((even if they don't give you a real email address, it can be VERY easily traced)), those that politely ask why we do what we do get polite answers.

Fok 'em!

The Brits take e-threats very seriously nowadays & at least one nutter has been jailed for this.

It's relatively easy to trace the sender & all you then have to do is forward it to the relevant (UK) police authority.

If they libel you, you can not only sue the sender but also his service provider in the UK as well......... and what's more, you'll probably be able to find a lawyer willing to do it on a no win, no fee basis. tu2

Problem is if she is good film maker/propaganda expert she is going to make something like "Blackfish". That and social media could get a lot of uniformed do gooders all behind banning us import of elephant trophies.

Its irrelevant to Buzz's personal and family safety but very relevant to business and conservation side of elephant hunting. Asian ivory demand and western do gooders could be the perfect storm for Africa's elephants.

Saeed/Don thanks for making this website non searchable by google and other search engines.

I am more and more reaching the view point stated by Steve Ahrenberg (fight club analogy) - elephant and lion (maybe even leopard) hunting has reached a point of being socially unacceptable behavior. Its perfectly legal in jurisdictions where it is conducted, its has economic and conservation benefits. But it is very difficult to rationally argue with some of these anti people on the merits of elephant (even lion) hunting. Its a tough public relation sell in favor of hunting. Much easier to sell the anti-hunting story to the general public.
