Trying to post photos for the first time. This is a PAC ele from Moz in '04. We didn't get him by tracking, but happened on him as he was headed for a village crop field. My first shot was behind the right shoulder, and PH Marc Harper gave hime one in the rear and one in non-vital area. He ran about 150 yds and we followed at a run in the dust. The next morning 100 villagers showed up for the meat. They were doubly happy at the food, and at being relieved of a long time problem. Steve

This elephant is from Namibia. The elephants were crossing over from the Chobe National Park, which they had essentially eaten bare in that area. Once they were in Namibia, they of course caused much grief to the villagers. This elephant was taken after about 3 hrs of tracking.

One of these kids was playing with a used condom. I don't know if a case of HIV has ever been documented from blowing up a "ballon" with chapped lips, but I wouldn't doubt it, especially there.

This fellow was the Muzimo, or spirit medium. He had to give a blessing over the elephant before it was butchered.

The Muzimo apparently is identified by the hat, the black robe, and the staff. I do not know the name, if any, for the local Chibunda religion.

Sounds to me like the kid blowing up the used condom was the one in serious need of the blessing, not the elephant meat!
