Hello everyone. This is my 2nd post on the Accurate Reloading Forum, so be easy on me if I screw up this post.

I leave July 29th, 2008, headed for Mozambique and northern SA, for ~three weeks. Hippo, Cape buffalo, Waterbuck, Eland and Kudu.

My rifle (my carefully considered choice), is a WWG Co-Pilot with an 18.5" bbl, loaded with Randy Garrett’s 45-70, 540 Grain ammo. I have used Garrett ammo in Argentina and Canada on Asian buffalo and bear. Agreed, it has the trajectory of a thrown brick, but it strikes like a thrown sledgehammer, and bone-crushing penetration is a fact. The 540 Grain is really a 100 yard "stopper" I get a 1" group at 100 yds.

Wish me luck... I hope to post some photos when I return.

Bill H--Good luck, and let us know how it goes! I have used a 45-110 Sharps and 520 grain lead bullets on plains game to good effect on Kudu, wildebeast--blue and black, and zebra. I have gotten complete pass throughs on everything I have shot.

I think you made a good choice as to your cartridge. I would really like to hear how it does on the hippo. You will have the time of your life, that's for sure.

Bill,

Good luck. I'm anxious to hear how the 45-70 does on your buff. There's been bit of discussion around here in the past about the 45-70 as a DG cartridge Wink.

Have a great hunt.

Good luck. I will be especially interested on how it performs on buff.

You will not be under-gunned--unless an ele decides to stomp on you, and you don't have a second barrel with a solid! Big Grin Just kidding! Good luck, take lots of pix.
