WHITEFISH, Mont. March 8, 2013 (AP)
Police in northwestern Montana say a man shot and killed the host of the Sportsman Channel show "A Rifleman's Journal" while the TV personality was visiting the shooter's wife.
Whitefish police say 41-year-old Wayne Bengston then beat his wife, took his 2-year-old son to a relative's house, and drove to his home in West Glacier where he apparently killed himself.
Police identified the shooting victim as 43-year-old Gregory G. Rodriguez of Sugar Land, Texas. Besides appearing on TV, he's the CEO of Global Adventure Outfitters.
Bengston's wife told police that Rodriguez was in town on business and visiting her at her mother's house when her husband showed up Thursday night.
It wasn't clear how Rodriguez and the woman were acquainted. Police plan to hold a news conference Friday afternoon.

Tim HeraldI heard about an hour ago- sure hate to hear it. I have known Greg for years and shared camp with him numerous times. He was extremely knowledgable about guns and hunting travel. Prayers go to his family...

bwanamrmWow.... really don't know what to say.
On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Paul ReedShocking, absolutely shocking. I spoke with Greg for over an hour about a month ago about booking a hunt in New Zealand that led to conversations on the hunting industry, shooting, TV shows and more. I found him to be very knowledgeable and perceptive on the industry for his age. Prayers for his family as I know he had at least one son who he took hunting with him. A sad story…

Wendell ReichSon of a bitch. I liked Greg. While we are all in the same business, and essentially compete for the same clients, there is usually a bit of a bond between most of us in this industry.
I would always make time to come and talk to Greg at conventions. I am glad I made the time to go see him on the last day of SCI. We had a very good talk. I will miss him. He had a great sense of humor, and was definitely one of the "Good Guys" in this industry.
Rest in peace my friend.

jjbullI never met Greg but enjoyed talking via phone and e-mail with him a few times.
He always seemed like one of the good guys to me too and I can attest to his sense of humor.
All the best to his family.
RIP Greg.

Rich ElliottI'm really shocked. I've watch Greg's outdoor career evolve over the past many years, visited with him many times both on line and in person, read his articles with interest, and said to myself how proud I was of his making a living pursuing his passion for the outdoors...Africa in particular. This is hard to take.

Gayne C. YoungWe posted a picture of Greg and his son just last week. Unfortunately, I had to post it again just now.
I'll miss you and your dry, perverted sense of humor Greg. I always knew when we got together we'd laugh.

Aspen Hill AdventuresI have known Greg a long time. Met him in person in Atlanta way back while in line for a Delta flight to RSA. I've had very recent discussions with him about relocating to Texas. He was always there to lend a helping hand even though he was very busy.
For those who never met him personally just know that Greg was the kind of person you wanted to know and have as a friend. He was a family man and a first class gentleman. The world is a lesser place today.
May God rest his soul and somehow provide peace to his family.
