Brad, did you ever stop to think that people actually like doing acts of kindness for others that they can't do for themselves?

Leave it to you for this adolescent post - charging people lending a helping hand. Unless of course that reminds you of your last "date"? This poke in the eye is what I get for taking you off ignore...

Well let's see. Electronic communication providers/equipment. Just plain miscommunication between the two parties. Messages sent but not received and sender thinking that it was. Too many scenarios to list. The fair thing to do is when dogleg finishes his hunt with Charl, he comes back and report what the issues were so that Charl is not unfairly judged.

Jack,
You are a moron, my comment was not aimed negatively at those who had helped. Rather, it was aimed at Charl that he "owed" the people who had helped his slacking ass out. It is obvious to even the most casual observer that there are multiple people on this site that "people actually like doing acts of kindness for others that they can't do for themselves". BTW, the quote on your signature line is a frightening realization that a sociopathic fictional charachter has gained real status in some idiots minds. So, retreat back to the soothing glow of your Hi-Def TV and save yourself some stress, put me back on "ignore" if you really think you can make it through the day without wondering what perspicacity I am imparting on the masses today.

Well, that would answer "what" but not "who" as you originally stated. You could be right, perhaps an email didn't make it, question, if someone had given you tens of thousands of dollars to head up their buffalo/croc/hippo safari, you arranged their flights, emailed them the info and they never replied, just to find out later they never recieved the email, whose fault is that? How about a "delivery receipt", or a "read receipt", or even a second follow up email when there was no reply to the first? Just a thought.

I do not know Charl , but he seems to be a very correct and honest person by reading his posts and i sincerely do not believe he has done it by being negligent.

I am sure that he will explain us all this situation.

Most important now is that our fellow Dogleg is now heading to have a fantastic hunt and lot's of fun thats what i wish for him.

He was very BRAVE and he will have a wonderful hunt .

And ....Andrew - congratulations to your Mam & Dad , you are a fantastic guy !

Cheers

I don't have nearly enough information to know what went wrong, or why, or who was at fault, BUT, I have, in this thread, ample information to know what went right, and who put forth voluntary effort where they had no obligation to do so.

In one thread we see the best and (potentially) the worst of Accurate Reloading. I know which I'll remember if I'm ever able to contemplate booking hunts.

From this amazing episode we need to also recognise that Charl is obviously respected and appreciated by many.

This support was not just for Dogleg but also for Charl.

From personal experience I can attest to how nerve racking sitting somewhere waiting for an outfitter to pick you up can be when communication is difficult do to remote locations. First off good on you Dogleg for having the stones to go. Second, to the group of AR gentlemen that helped Dogleg on this journey you are tops in my books.

My support was firstly to the good name of the South African Hunting Outfitting Industry as a whole and secondly for Charl, as I knew that the "possible" stuff-up was totally uncharacteristic of how I know Charl! Sure, thirdly my support was also meant for the, then totally unknown to me, hunter who was obviously in a terrible predicament. Now I know Dogleg as "one of the good clients!" Wink

I will also raise a glass of cold stuff at 21:00 local time on the health and happiness of all the good friends that I got to know through AR and hunting in general.

This is one of the most encouraging threads I have read on AR.

Some of the things I will take from this thread:

1. The overall goodness and quality of mankind.
2. The initial encouragement of AR members to go and things would work out. (It sounds like it is working out.) They new at some level it would work out.
3. The brotherhood of AR and the hunting community to take care of a person in need.
4. The offers of help and the quality of some of the PH's in RSA and Moz to make sure a hunter wasn't left stranded.
5. Andrew is a fantastic guy to drop what he was doing to help a hunters dreams to be fulfilled. (Hopefully our paths will cross someday.)

I am honored to be a (very) small part of the AR community. You guys are the best! tu2

Shabalalah, I will raise a mason jar to you and all of my absent companions at 21:00 tonight. If you are going down to the pub say hello to that good looking blond if she is still hanging around there. I look forward to brandy and cigars the next time I'm in Lydenburg. Andrew, here's to you for everything you did for dogleg and for the hunting community.

IMPRESSIVE bunch of fine folks here on A/R.
I'll bet Saeed is mighty proud of all you guys that jumped into this helping dogleg out of a bind.

I was a bit late on the toast, just about 24:00 here, but, I just enjoyed a fine glass of wine in your honors too. I don't do the hard stuff anylonger, too many pills involved.

Am hoping to hear Charl's side of this and more from dogleg on the hunt and how it's going to work out after they do meet up.

I'll bet it was just lost e'mails not received here and the resulting panic.

Sure wish it was so I could make such a trip as this. I know there's no lack of great helpers and PH's down that way.

Seriously, good on all of our South African mates who stood up and by a hunter taking a plunge into the unknown. Well done fellas! Again, one of the reasons this Forum shines at times.

I, like the rest of you, have been following this thread for days and I have learned two very important things.
1. The resources and relationships we have on this forum are an incredible asset in a time of need.
2. Andrew McLarens conduct during this situation have showed us all what kind of man that he is and he will definately be the first person that I call or recommend for a South African hunt!

Third thing is that in Africa, like everywhere things happen, just happen slower!

Dogleg is certainly having an African adventure and meeting some fine people.

Kudos to all involved.

This is a rather heart warming result.

We should all be proud of those who have offered to help, and most of all to Andrew.

I will also echo what he had said about Charl.

We have no way of knowing what had caused this problem, and I am sure Charl will let us know.

The end result is Dogleg is on his way to hunt, and we all hope he will have a great time.

I tried numerous times on my Sat phone at the appointed hour for two days all in an effort to assist dogleg at the beginning of the problem, and had absolutely no luck either. Confused I even searched Charl's Facebook friends for a number of hours in desperation in order to see if I could find a relative or friend to contact that might help. Mad After two days of absoulute futility, you volunteered to be dogleg's guardian angel! Big Grin At least he got there! wave

Hi Guys
I got a few SMS messages from Dogleg today. He took a buffalo on the charge this morning. Sounds like it was a hell of a hunt. They are now after Hippo. Updates should follow soon. He says he has lots of pictures

I would also like to mention that having been privy to Andrew Mclarens actions throughout the course of assisting Dogleg, I can only say that if you knew the full extent of what the man did your praise would be doubled. He really went above and beyond.
Andrew, well done, you are a class act and an example to us all.

Since coming to this forum 6 years ago...I've read many of Andrew's threads/posts here. I've always held him in high-esteem...but his direct involvement here in this fiasco and having to give up much personally to make it happen...just shows what kind of man he is!

I hope you reap bountifully for your efforts Andrew...for this is just over and beyond!

I salute you sir beer

AND I HOPE MY FRIEND CHARL IS OKAY AND SOMETHING TERRIBLE HAS NOT HAPPENED TO HIM AS THIS IS COMPLETELY OPPOSITE OF HIS NATURE/INTEGRITY!
