I see on Brittany Boddingtons facebook page it says that TSA now requires that every hole on your gun case that can, has a lock in in it. Can't find anything anywhere that says this except her. ?? DIE WITH MEMORIES NOT DREAMS

From TSA: The container must completely secure the firearm from being accessed. Locked cases that can be easily opened are not permitted. https://www.tsa.gov/travel/tra...earms-and-ammunition Some cases require locks on both ends. Assuming the TSA used a rational thought process for the requirement, this type of case could be opened enough to remove a firearm with only one lock.

http://whnt.com/2016/10/29/the...el-with-long-rifles/ Link has a video. The Do’s and Don’t’s of air travel with long rifles POSTED 7:17 PM, OCTOBER 29, 2016, BY SARAH MACALUSO HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - It's hunting season in some parts of the country and holiday travel is right around the corner, the Transportation Security Administration wants you to pay close attention when traveling with long rifles. "The simple equation is more people carrying plus more people traveling equals more guns at airports," said TSA Regional Spokesperson, Mark Howell. The ticketing area is the last place you should see your firearm, according to the TSA. Depending on what gun you travel with, the requirements change. For example, with a long rifle, the case is imperative. "They'll usually have multiple spaces for locks," said Howell. "When you're going to lock the box you want to make sure that you hit each of those spaces with a lock. In other words, you don't want to be able to get your hand on the inside of the box, if you're just locking one of them." When checking your firearm in at ticketing, make sure the staff knows who it belongs to. "Put your business card on the outside of the box," said Howell. " If you don't have a business card, a piece of duck tape or something with your name and phone number on the outside of the box." Finally, when you've reached your destination and are waiting for your firearm, don't be surprised if you don't see it on the conveyor belt. "If you're carrying a rifle case, kinda of the same thing, it's going to come out in over sized baggage because it's a little bit misshaped," said Howell. TSA cut my lock off my tuffpak and replaced it with a cheap tsa lock. I put a combination of TSA locks and non-TSA locks on every lockable part of my gun case on this trip (RSA and Zim - SEP 2016). Probably overkill. Others just used two locks with a bar that slides though the other holes without any problem. Make sure you locks are easy to open and you have easy access to the keys. Struggling to open your locks while a line has formed behind you is not a relaxing way to travel IMO. BH63 Hunting buff is better than sex!

Tuffpak has one lock and you can not get your hand in anyplace to steal the firearm as the top is too tight and too deep plus LOCKED. If you need two locks then take a Master Lock Python cable lock and run it thru the bottom handle and thru the handle on top of the lid. Now it is locked twice. Better tomorrows to all! I just returned from Nepal. On my way over, the United agent told me my TSA locks would not be accepted and I had to have non-TSA locks. They actually slapped a lock on my case that didn't have a key so I had to cut the lock off in Kathmandu. When I travelled to Canada in May, they said I was required to have TSA locks. It's a moving target. I think it's best to bring one of each and see what the agent tells you at the ticket counter. To further prove even the agents do not know the rules, one of the guys travelling with me was asked by the United agent at his airport if he had TSA locks on his gun case. When he replied yes, they said "good" and sent his rifle through. If you want to know what the TSA requirement is for locks, go to TSA.gov The ticket agents don't know about guns, ammunition, knives, scopes, locks, or much else. Print the airline's baggage requirements and TSA's lock requirements and have them with you at the airport. George

US law requires that cases containing firearms that are checked for airline travel be locked - which means that any means of locking be employed - and that if the lock is keyed, then only the owner of the firearm in question may possess the key. And yes, in my travels, I have had to explain this to every variety of airline employee and security agent, including TSA personnel. It helps enormously to have the rules and regulations handy. But the problem is by no means a US problem only. I remember the time back in the Dark Ages when I was paged while in transit at Amsterdam Schipol. Never had to go through security. Never left the international terminal. Purely in transit. I answered the page, as though I had any choice in the matter. The officious fellow at the desk asked me, "Do you know why we paged you?" I replied, "I suspect it must be about the three rifles in my checked luggage." He said, "Are they unloaded and locked in cases?" I said yes. He said, "Do you have paperwork?" I gave him my Forms 4457, which, under the circumstances, were entirely irrelevant, and which he scrutinized for many minutes. Then he begrudgingly allowed me to go on with my tavels. http://www.huntingreport.com/w...te.cfm?articleid=801 Potential Problem for Hunters Flying with Plastic Guns Cases (posted November 04, 2016) Subscriber J.C. Hurt alerted us to a potential issue for hunters traveling with plastic gun cases. Apparently, American Airlines personnel at Barajas-Madrid Airport in Spaintold Hurt that he could not board a flight to the US with his Tuffpak gun case because of regulation supposedly requiring plastic cases to have two locks. Says Hurt, “I was denied checking my Tuffpak at the American Airlines baggage desk. The supervisor told me that they were now enforcing a new TSA regulation stating that all plastic gun cases have two locks. They actually had me come behind the ticket counter to look at what they were looking at on the computer screen. they showed me the American Airlines directive, including a photograph of the cheapest type of plastic piano-hinged case being pulled apart by a pair of hands to expose the butt of a rifle.” The highest-level American Airlines supervisor at the airport eventually allowed Hurt to check the case “just this once.” No new regulations have been published on TSA’s website, which indicates that a “locked hard-sided container” must be used (see www.tsa.gov/travel/transportin...arms-and-ammunition). Our email conversation with a press officer at American Airlines suggests that there is no “new” regulation, but that American Airlines has chosen to place a certain construction on existing TSA regulations. According to the press officer, “TSA requirements state that, ‘the container must completely secure the firearm from being accessed.’ This includes preventing someone from accessing the firearm without cutting the lock or breaking open the container. Some plastic rifles cases can allow access to the firearm if not locked correctly. For example, if the container only has one lock in the middle of the case, a flexible case will bend allowing access to the firearm. To comply with these TSA requirements, American requires that rifle cases have a lock at each end of the case.” Obviously, Tuffpak cases cannot be bent to access the firearms. Hunters should be aware that American Airlines may refuse to check rifles with Tuffpak cases or other cases that only have one lock, even if the cases do not allow access to firearms within. We have not yet heard back from a TSA press officer who is looking into the matter, and we will advise readers in a second bulletin if we hear more. The fact is the Tuffpack is going to be a problem for many travelers. I will install an hasp in the top of mine, and a loop in the side of the top for a pad lock. that will then be two locks on the Tuffpack. ..................................................................... ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

Geez folks, can't anyone read anymore. NO modification is needed to lock a Tuff Pak with two lock sources. Please see and read UEG and Harrys solution to this. Lock the cylinder lock, use a cable lock between the two handles, done. Larry Sellers SCI Life Member

Just more utter nonsense from uneducated airline employees. Nothing new fro TSA as regards secure cases for transporting firearms. The cheap plastic cases have never met the TSA requirements. TuffPak's need no modifications and doing so only creates issues for the majority of owners who understand the TSA requirements. I travel with all metal cases that feature 4 clamp-locks and a steel bar that runs through each. A strong Master Lock keeps the bar from being removed. Never had any problems. Well, I just went duck hunting and used my tuffpak. I had no issues, but that was flying from the upper Midwest to the Midwest. What I was told was that they were told that if you can get a finger in or if there are unused locking spots, they were to reject the case.

CRButler, given what (they) were told, did you have issues with your tuffpak or was it acceptable? If not acceptable, what were the issues? The tuffpak seems to comply with both of these so-called standards.

I had no problems. The points that I made about the policy were when I asked them what was going on and the changes they were told. My older pelican case I would now need 4 locks on as it has 4 hasps, even though I never used more than 2 in the past. The airline agent in Kansas was willing to chat... in Minneapolis, they didn't look any further than me telling them what I needed as they remembered me from before...no static at all. Of course, this is Delta and in the Midwest, and the agent knew I had been through this before-

What George said is the best advice. Go to TSA Website for the latest requirements and print off the specific airline's policy. Saves big hassle in the long run Tim
