There was a thread about "Who is not going this year". I didn't contribute, 'cause I was going... well, until yesterday.

I kind of feel like Begno this morning after his buffalo charge. It's 5:15 a.m. and I can't sleep worth a whit, hurt like heck and can't get around without about killing myself. I think I need one of those little scooters you see on T.V. and I'm looking at about 2 months of incapacity in some degree. Damnit!

At Dallas, I gave HHK a deposit on a hunt to go back to Zimbabwe for a tuskless.

This year I've got some other things going on that limits my ability to go to Africa to early in the year (i.e., taking Emmy on a Canadian bear hunt, squiring my other daughter around Wyoming to ride horses in the mountains and.... getting married to my Sandy in September). And, I have a ticket to Jo'burg that'll expire if I don't take it before June.

So, I was most probably going for number 8 in April, or was, that is, until about 11:00 yesterday morning when I got charged. Eeker

In Georgia, non-LEO's can apply for criminal warrents. There is a process where an application is made and the proposed defendant has a right to appear at a probable cause hearing and contest issuance (if he or she so wishes). I actually helped write the law some 20 years ago because, as a judge, I saw so many "civilian" warrants issued when the old and "one-sided" ex parte process resulted in folks getting arrested on B.S. charges.

Anyway, I was participating in such a hearing yesterday morning (not as a judge, but as an attorney for the victim). The facts really weren't in dispute and the defendant even admitted acts that'll send him to jail for a good while and put him on the sex offender list.

When the judge told the deputies to take the accused into custody, he, at first, cooperated, then spun away from them swinging fists and elbows. Two burly bailiffs tackled him but in a flash he was up and running right at me. The s.o.b. missed his calling. He should have been a cornerback in the N.F.L.

I was speaking to the judge about another matter when I turned to see what the commotion was. Damn if I had anywere to go, since my back was up against the judge's bench... an I had no .450 N.E. double or even bolt rifle trash.

Here comes a 22 year-old guy (looking at a possible 20 year sentence) rippling with muscles that looked like like molten steel, at full-tilt and flying straight at me. I didn't owe him money Big Grin, but he still had the "you or me" look. Visions of my buffalo charge at Deka two years ago actually went through my mind. As a deputy said, I was trying to protect myself, get away and help out, all at the same time.

So... I kicked the unmitigated shit out of the idiot who was coming at me full steam. The consequences were multiple. My fibula broke at the ankle, the idiot went not a step further... and whimpered on the ground before being hauled away (and he now has an aggrevated battery charge on the elderly (me being 65) and I ain't going to Africa...

But, I got in my dangerous game charge for the year, didn't I.

JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

Ernest,
Oh no no no...the above are not the proper stoppers for that type of charge!

Here is the perfect application of the round nose solid FMJ dangerous game bullet (for .465 H&H). A properly placed .452 230 gr FMJ round nose solid does wonderfully here. Of course it must be shot out of the proper dangerous game platform for this type of charge...1911 only...with just the right velocity for this situation (don't want over penetration here in the herd) of 900fps.

Oh wait maybe we need a soft/HP??? No no no...they are unreliable feeders...round nose FMJ solids only for a charge.
jumping

BTW...Godspeed recovery and good show on the @$$-kicking!

Judge,

No doubt about it, that buff charge at Deka a few years ago definitely got you ready for this charge. The buff stopper was a good kick in the right place.

Hope you heal quickly and get back in the bush.

Don't give up on your safari just yet.

Some years ago Carl broke his ankle on the escalator at JFK enroute to Zim. Just so happened his Orthopedist was going with. They boarded and when they arrived in JNB went straight to a hospital for the x-ray confirmation and then the local drug store to purchase lots of tape and pain killers. I met him for dinner that night and the next morning he was off to Zim. He got a Leopard and some PG before returning home.

Hope the asshole gets some jailhouse justice as well.

SemperFi!

Well done. Hope the court proceedings were captured on film. That would be a fun moment to relive every now and then. But don't let a broken fibula stop you from going to Africa. Have a look at one of those plastic ankle supports. You should still be able to get around, just not as fast. - All the best.
